This question was posed in a thread in this section entitled "Ferrari - is it more than just a car?". I thought this was an excellent question and was fodder for a fun thread!

In my younger days, I bought a 1977 Ford Ranchero. It was the newer body style, and I picked it up for $2,700.00. I rebuilt the engine, put in a rebuilt transmission, had it painted 1969 Corvette Gold, put on T/A Radials and Tru-Spoke wheels (which were the poo at the time) and built a custom, one off killer audio system (four 10 inch subs behind the seats). This thing was PERFECT! After a couple of years, I traded it (plus some cash) for a 1977 Corvette. I did have a great time in that Corvette, but all of my friends have always said that I should have never given up that Ranchero. I agree with them.

    Not yet.

I hope I wouldn't do that mistake that I will regret in the future.

Ahh the Ranchero, I sold a '69 4yrs ago due to lack of space. the 351C it had was a hoot, pulled it to put in a 502 but never got around to it and well the rest is history.

I also sold a '65 mustang and a dodge dart special edition yrs ago.

but my biggest missing car sale was the '81 Alpina B7s http://www.bmwm5.com/alpina/e12b7st.html
couldn't get reg here in CA, commies.

oh yeah.I used to have several muscle cars. Now that Barret Jackson has drivien prices up, i wish I had held them for 5 more years.

I did sell a 911 once I still miss. It was a a 78 SC euro with tons of engine work.
Im hangin on to the 308 , and will add a 360 in the next few months, instead of replacing it.

a '76 cougar. bought it new. it was a very nice car. i had some insurance problems and had to take it off the road for a year. in the meantime, where i had it stored, mice and squirrels got to it and literally ate it up.

'71 MGB - 1st car, still have a soft spot for 'em. I'll pick up another some day.
    '77 911S
'90 911C2 - great bang for the buck
    '82 944
'84 (maybe '85 or 6) Audi Coupe GT Special Edition (God I'm gettin' old, can't remember the exact year)

A bunch more, none worth a ton of money, but all were a blast to drive, and would have been fun to hang on to.

    I had a VW Scirocco (1st iteration), 1964 TR4A, 1972 TR6, Z28 Camaro, a Datsun 280Z, all fun, cool cars.

Man, I'm beginning to hate this thread...

Sure. My wife sold her '67 Camaro for $200.00. I sold my '65 Vette (396) and my '69 XKE. My Lusso? Ah, I financed the rest of my F-cars by holding on to it for thirty years. For me, two out of three ain't bad!

Early 60's Mini Cooper S, set up for Hill Climb racing. Bought it for $2,500 in 1969 and sold for about same price in 1972 (to buy Alfa Romeo GTV). Mini had balanced engine, Abarth exhaust, Minilite wheels, Cibie driving lights, full roll bar - I could part it out for much more than I paid for the whole car. More importantly, there is just no way to replace it - so I make due with a new MCS, but not the same.

This thread title is the reason that I'm still holding onto my headache of a Testarossa. I love it with a passion, but I've put well more than its worth into repairs in the past 8 years since I bought it.

But, I am certain that I will be kicking myself silly in the future if I sell it now for the $25k that its worth with 50k on the clock and a blown first gear. However, the bigger pain might be getting through this and future years of expensive repairs...

When you sell them, get the right of first refusal. I bought the last two back, a 89 944 Turbo S and a CJ-7. Only problem is I know I'll have to give them up again.

Its nice if you have some friends and can pass them around a little.
