Some questions.. I'm considering installing a tracking device. Is there a point to this or would the thieves skilled enough to get into the car in the first place be likely to locate and remove said device anyway? How much would a GPS tracking device shave off of your typical insurance? Any model suggestions? Anyone ever had their ferrari stolen and later retrieved with the use of a tracker? Tnx.

I can't remember who but some guy on here had his 355 Challenge car stolen (Painted with the Tommy colors) but I can't remember whether he had a tracking system or not but I remember that it was missing for a couple of weeks (I think).

Maybe do a search on the owner because I am sure that he has a locator on his cars now!

Truth about cars like Ferrari, Lambo, etc ... is the following:

1 - Most thieves are not a individual, but a group of thieves looking to steal cars for parts.

2 - The average thief wants the parts for resale. Parts in Honda's and Acura are interchangeable like engine parts and tranny parts.

3 - Joy riders stay away from these cars ...attract way too much attention.

Ferrari's and Lambo ... stick out like a sore thumb ....they are impossible to hide and parts for these cars are not interchangeable with any other vehicle.

Can you image this ... "Attention all cars..be on the lookout for a Red Ferrari F430 Spyder reported stolen heading down the 405 Freeway".......not easy to store a car like this unless you are shipping it out of the US.

Don't worry about it being stolen ...... worry about some ********* either keeying your car ..or parking so close he gives you a door ding.

I've put a couple of lojacks in a few ferraris. I don't know if the owners would actually need it but, they are in there. Most owners, I think, would have their car valeted (or being watched by a valet) and parked inside a private garage.

The immobilizer in the 360 makes it particularly difficult to steal. It is integrated into the ECU so it isn't like you can just yank it out. Most of the parts have a SN on them as well. Combine that with the other comments and you get the idea of how low the risk really is.

Oh yea, I am parting out a 360 .... uh yea .... very low prices and never mind the part where I ground off the serial numbers ;)

my 348 was stolen twice (one of the many reasons i sold it). but both times the locator-immobilizer helped it to be recovered by the police.

Where did they recover it? Was it the same individual(s)?

Excellent advice. I discussed the matter with the local police and they provided me with the same information.
