    Hello,

I am looking to see if anyone has ever replaced just the metal cable on the 308 window mechanism?

While completing a general rebuild and attempting to increase the speed of the windows by removing the old grease I found that I was living on one strand of the twisted cable on the driver side..... so it needs to be replaced, and I would prefer not to have to replace the whole mechanism?

    Any help or photos appreciated

BTW I have already done a search and have only found how to replace the grease which is simple enough, cannot see how to get to the end of the cables within the mechanism to remove it and replace it though ?

Try searching with "cable", there are a couple (3) threads and check out what Gianluca says. Good luck, I'm going to tackle mibe in late May.

did this two summers ago and it is a real pain in the @$$. The top of the plastic gear has a metal cover on it, to remove it you have to put the motor in a press to pull out a pin holding the cover on. Then you have access to the beginning and ending point of the cable. Sorry no pictures.

    Here is a good link.

I had mine in and out at least 10 times. when i rolled up the window I kept getting a crunching sound so of course i though i had either to many or too few wraps of cable but what it turned out to be was that i had a cable crossed over. (I mean at one point in the assembly a cable had to go under and i put over)

The first time I had the motor out of the door it probably took me 5 hours to get it out and back in. Now I've done it so many times I can do it in ten minutes (not counting removing replacing the door skin)

There is another thread That actually has a rough sketch of how to wrap the cable.

While you're in there buy enough cable to do the door opening mechanism as well.
