I have 2 experiences. The first is when I was part of Search and Rescue out of Columbia, MD. We had rented a house adjacent to a graveyard in Harpers Ferry, Va. I was the first into the house, as I was excited (I was probably 13-14). As soon as I got into the doorway, I saw someone standing in the hallway entrance to the basement dressed in Civil War attire off in the corner of my eye. I looked at him, and he vanished.

There is also a book there detailing everyone's occurences within the house, from pictures being tossed across the room to cabinets opened, etc.

The second is where I live now. My girlfriend had her best friend die 2 years ago in a really bad car accident. Well, after that, some things started to happen after we moved in together. Our TV and radio will turn on by themselves, and one time, she was in the kitchen, I was in the den, and a spoon jumped off the table to land on the floor. Also, my USMC dress cover has been on a stand for 2 years, then just fell off one day.

Personally, I've never seen one, but my mom swears she lived in a haunted house growing up.

Her whole family has had accounts too, so it makes it a little more legit, one time my grandpa heard my aunt Jean come home and it was pretty late and he could hear *her* making breakfast (the sound of sausage crackling, skillets making noise, all that)he says he could smell everything, coffee, bacon, so he goes down to see why shes making breakfast at like 3 AM.....goes into the kitchen and nobody is there, all the skillets put away. Jean walked in about 20 minutes later.

Other times my uncle Chris would be mowing the lawn and the neighbor kids would come to him and ask who the guy in the window in the red shirt was, because they would see him watching Chris everytime he would mow the lawn, but he had no clue who he was talking about, he would ask his parents who it was and they told him nobody had been to the house that day.

My Uncle Chris is on the SWAT team for Huntsville, Alabama (or the area SWAT team im not sure if hes a city SWAT team or a regional one) and he cries when he thinks of some of the things that happend in that house.

BTW, Peters, your post gave me some serious goosebumps, i cant imagine living it.

    Yep.

When I was about 10 or 11, I visited my Aunt and Uncle in Mexico City. Their house had been built on the site of an old convent and graveyard.

About 2 AM, I wake up, and for sure see someone in the room with me, dark outfit, long flowing garment, and kind of indisctinct shape.

Next morning, I tell my Aunt, a devout Catholic, that I saw someone in the room with me last night, and asked if she had come into the room.

Her response was no, that I had simply gotten a visit from the ghost of a nun who occasionally was seen about the property. She was not B.S.ing me.

She came to visit this Christmas and 38 years later I recounted this story to her, and sure enough, she confirmed it. (They no longer live in this house, it's the house for the Columbian Ambassador, or some such dignitary.)

Now, am I sure I saw a ghost? No, but I'm damn sure whatever I saw was pretty wierd, and certainly way out of the ordinary, and lacks many other plausable explanations.

Aparently the local restauraunt is haunted by a little girl. The owner claims (my mum told me this, i have yet to confirm it with the ower) that this little girl is quite friendly and is seen a lot by her. Usually in the morning when she is opening up. She said one time the girl unplugged the vaccuum!

We were visiting friends in the UK who live opposite a graveyard. Just as we are leaving, it was quite late, Neil (one of our friends) mentions something about the graveyard being haunted. He said he has never seen or heard anything but aparently a horse rider has been seen and heard walking through the graveyard. As we were walking to the car, i heard something coming from the graveyard, dunno what it was, but it lasted about 10 secs (i think, this was last year. it lasted quite long iirc) and it sounding sorta like hooves from a horse. Scared me quite a bit. My parents and sister didn't hear a thing

My dad and his friend have seen a ufo. They were driving along and saw a triangle shaped thing with lights on it above them. Aparently, it was kind of hovering and suddenly zooms off REALLY quick. He said it didn't make any noise. His friend hates to talk about it, but says that they did see something that night.

I do believe in UFO's and aliens btw. Ghosts, i'm not sure.

I agree. I cannot think of any logical reason why the Universe would be so huge (approximately 13 billion light years in length, and always expanding) to just accomodate us humans. I just hope I live to see the day when this phenomena is given a definite answer.

I to believe that somwhere else in the universe life (intelligent or not) does exist, im not conviced however that any of it has ever came to our planet, simply because of the logistics involved in anything living travelling those distances.

I believe you, but only because I once saw the same thing, except jimmy hoffa was the pilot.

I grew up in a refurbished old house in Haddonfield.

I never saw a Ghost there, but I saw a Silver Shadow once. ;)
(Actually, the owner of Checker Cars lived at the end of my block.)

I think the spookiest thing in town at the time was ... me. :D

I think there may be other life in the universe. So what? It would take us over a decade to get to the moon again. Life a billion light-years away is not in our accessible universe.

And any aliens with the ability to get here would have no reason to bother. How many people who live here don't follow the news? Why would someone from across the universe be interested?

I have good friend (with no good reason to brag about that) tell me he was offered an Ouija board, and when he said "Hello" (or whatever you say to "introduce" yourself), the board replied, using a name only his dad used. His dad had been dead for years. He burned the board the following minute.

Personally I have never seen ghosts, but I avoid like the plague Ouija boards, Bloody Mary's and other similar stuff!!!

I do believe in Aliens ... but now do they have enough techonolgy to reach the Earth? I wouldn't bet on it. Perhaps they're still cavemen light years away.

My parents just bought a house in Chadds Ford, PA. It's not an old house (maybe 7 or 8 years) but there seems to be some ghostly activity. The house was formerly owned by a family that my family knows. My sister went to high school with their kids and my parents knew them through school activities. Well, a few years back the mother developed cancer. After a long battle she passed away in the master bedroom. The husband eventually remarried and the new wife didn't want to live in the house anymore so they sold it.

Here is where it gets a little freaky. My parents decided to do some renovating before they moved in and they were there quite often. One day my mother was in the kitchen and she said that she saw a women walking from one room to the next. She said that the woman looked very similar to the woman that used to live there. On another occasion the painter came to the house one morning to work but he forgot the key. He was knocking and ringing the doorbell in hopes that maybe someone was there that could let him in. He looked in the window and said he saw a woman walking through the kitchen but she didn't respond to his knocking. She wouldn't even turn his way.

My mother believes that her spirit may be roaming the place but feels that because the woman was a very pleasant person in life that she doesn't pose any threat. It's for this reason that she isn't afraid of her. I, on the other hand, wouldn't go there by myself after hearing this stuff!

Back when I was young, there were several instances when I saw my brother running into my room. I would run after him only to find that there wasn't anyone in there. Later I asked my brother how he was able to hide from me in my own room, and he told me that he saw me do the same thing.

His brother saw JJC doing the very same thing JJC came to ask him about. It seems as if, by his description, that two ghosts (the ghost of JJC and his brother) were playing hide-n-seek in each other's rooms.

I don't think it was either of the siblings doing the running. It was a similar presence, though.

Goosebumps aplenty here, with all these confirmations.

I've got a couple of experiences with restless souls as well - second one first:
@ 21 years ago, I was kind of a go-to guy, as I'd set up stores, train and do PR for a small grocery chain. Given the distance to this particular location (45 miles from nearest pre-existing store in chain), this meant I was night-managing/prepping this location throughout it's growing pains/renovation. Though we had always managed to find a use - and mind you, quickly - for every nook and cranny of backroom space for storage of inventory in any other locale, there was one small room that stayed empty for a long damn time... months, in fact.

The feeling in that small room wasn't just somber - it was overwhelming. I can see her even now - white, dirty with eyes wanting help that never came. She couldn't have been more than 6.
    ___

Had a hypondriac of a loving Grandmother who never worked & never drove. Moved next door to us on August 16, 1974 after selling the house Pop was born in. Can't forget the date, since that was the day I knew we weren't moving to a jewel of a town on the Central Coast. I suppose it was '79 or '80 when I laid my weary head to sleep one night after building sh!tloads of cabinets for 12 hours - only to have a human-sized, floating presence darker than the unlit room on a moonless night come inthrough a window and say, "Goodbye, Tommy."

So, I threw some clothes on lickity-split, and went down the hall - "Dad, we need to check on Grandmother." After some protestation that turned to genuine concern, we went next door, and she was... asleep. Just asleep.

So, Pop, being the unbeliever in these things (though his Sister and my Grandmother used to have seances at Grandmother's old house - tearful two, they were one time in particular - cousins later said the two had talked to our Grandfather none of us kids ever met) razzed me about this nonsense.

However, I awoke the next morning to find a note on the stove... in my Mom's handwriting. My Great-Aunt had overdone it with booze and pills... went to the other side - at the exact time (she asked my Great-Uncle) I'd had this unexpected visitor, ... and was revived - and lived for a booze-free 15 years or so.

Here is another story that my friend experienced:

3 years ago, my friend Alice moved into an old apartment by herself. (I actually helped her move in) Well, about 2 days after she moved in, she told me that she hears noise in her room at night and that it freaked her out. Being a superstitious person, she found a Feng Sui guy and had him look at the apartment for possible spirits. The guy set up some crystals and put it at specific locations. The following night, she claimed to actually see things walking around at night. Well, she finally gets another Feng Sui guy to look at the apartment again, and Feng Sui guy #2 said that guy #1 doesn't know what he is doing. He said that the arrangement of the crystals actually attracted more supernatural activity in the apartment. Well, she stayed with me the rest of the month until she was about to find another place.

While I'm at it, here is another story my mother told me about:

My mom's best friend, Paula, moved into my mom's basement and had a dream one night. The dream was about an old man and a little girl who appeared in her room and was demanding that Paula leave their house. In the dream, Paula was saying "this is my room, you have to leave."

When Paula saw my mom the next day, she told her how wierd the dream was. My mom told Paula that she has nothing to worry about because she had the house inspected by her Feng Sui guy before she moved in, and that he house was clean of these types of things. After my mom thought about it some more, she realized that my grandfather and my aunt's miscarried baby both died in the house after she moved in.

When she told me this, I freaked out......

When I was young, say 4 or 5, I had a friend named Bob that always helped me with my toy cars or blocks or whatever. I always called him Robbie, which he liked.

Anyway, I would sit playing with my toys for hours, occasionally talking to Robbie. My parents thought this was cute, Korr has an imaginary friend. I always thought it odd that they referred to him as imaginary, since he was right there, and I could see him clear as day. I thought my parents were strange. What's a little kid going to know about the paranormal, anyway?

One day, when I was 5, we were in the supermarket, and I saw a woman that I recognized, and I ran up to her and said, "Hey, you are Robbie's mom!" To this, she was clearly surprised. My mother caught up to me, and scolded me for pestering a stranger.

"But Mom, that's Robbie's mom!" I exclaimed. Adults never understand!

The lady squinted at me and asked me how I knew about Robbie. Then my father walked over, and greeted the woman by her last name. He said, "I don't believe you have met my wife and son." And he introduced us to her. They made cordial small talk about something or other, and she asked my dad why he told me her son's name. He said, "Sorry, but I don't know your son's name. Robbie is Korr's imaginary friend."

I said, "He's not imaginary, and she's his mom!" The situation then became uncomfortable, and my mother ushered me off to aisles unknown.

It took two decades for me to understand the significance of that event and of Robbie. I did have my suspicions through the years, but they were distilled to nothing via the naivete of youth as well as my unwillingness to accept the fact that Robbie was anything but real. He was real to me, and screws to anyone else that thought otherwise.

The last time that I remember seeing Robbie was when I was lacing up my shoes prior to the trek to the corner store to buy some Bazooka gum with my pocket full of coins. Hey! ! was 5 or 6, and my parents let me walk alone to the store to buy gum! I remember thinking how neat it felt to be grown up, because I could walk to the store alone!

So, Robbie was sitting there on the steps, watching me lace up my shoes. I can't recall most of what he said to me, but I remember the last words he ever spoke to me.

He said, "Remember, don't get in the car. Run."

I made the trek to the store, following the trails and the shortcuts until I got to the highway that I crossed (looking both ways!). With pride, I placed my quarter and some-odd cents on the counter along with a few small heaps of gum. Mister X, the store owner, chuckled and told me that I didn't have enough money to buy them all. I shrugged, and told him that I couldn't add, and to please give me what my money could buy. I can't for the life of me remember what his name was, but I do remember that he was bald and round, and gave extras if you were nice.

Out the door I went, with my fat booty of Bazookas zipped up in my windbreaker's right pocket. Facing the daunting task of walking home, I unwrapped a bazooka and chewed and chewed and chewed until it was soft, but by that time my jaw hurt. I looked at the little comic and laughed at the pictures, and thought it was neat that gum came with free comics. Free little waxy rectangular comics that you had to squint at, but free all the same.

I started the journey home, and thought that I could ignore all the side trails and short cuts because I was old enough and big enough to make decisions all on my own. I was going to assert my adult freedom and walk alongside the highway, everything else darned to heck.

Well, there I was, walking tall, a man of my own, chewing and chewing and chewing bazooka gum and occasionally making sure that my stash of gums were safely zipped up in my pocket.

I don't recall exactly when I was being watched, but I remember with certain clarity the noise the car's tires made as the car slowed, then turned onto the shoulder from the pavement. I recall vividly the sound of gravel crunching under the tires. I kind of remember the black wheels and the hubcaps the car had.

I do remember the color of the car, a faded baby blue on something that had two handles on the outside. The driver, I could pick out of a police line-up to this day.

The car pulled in front of me and stopped, the driver rolled down the passenger side window, and he said, "Hey kid, want a ride home?"

I said no, because I was told to say no.

"Hey kid, your Dad and Mom are worried sick about you, and they sent me out to bring you home."

    And then,

"I know your dad, and he said he is going to whip you silly when you get home."

At this point, there were a few things running around in my head. First of all, I was going to get a beating when I got home. He said so. He knew my dad. He said so, and he's an adult. So it must be true.

I should just get in the car and let him take me home.

Then I remembered what Robbie told me.

"Don't get in the car. Run."

I bolted for the nearest trail that looked familiar, and I ran. I ran through woods and trees that tore my jacket. I bounced across the Smith's trampline like I was an acrobat.

I burst through the door of my house with scraped knees and bleeding forearms and a torn jacket. I told my mother what happened, and of course the entire police force descended upon our neighborhood. Such things happen when your dad is a police officer.

To this day, we don't talk about Robbie or that day in the supermarket. Pa tells me that one day when I am old enough, he will tell me about the guy in the blue car and what happened when he pulled him over.

It's been 30 years since then, and it's been 30 years since I've seen Robbie or heard from him.

I still refer to him sometimes, usually when I am stressed out and don't know what to do.

I ask, "What would Robbie do?"

The answer usually comes to me, in one form or another.

I think that it ususally happens in old homes because those places have been around longer, and therefore have more history. It is interesting though that most of these experiences occur at night. It's also interesting that when these stories are told during the day, it is not nearly as scary.

Ghosts or phantoms are typically in old places or houses or even newer houses from something tragic happening to them, they are stuck in purgatory due to dying before their time or having a tragic death and have lost their way to the afterlife:)

My younger brother and his friends used to find the oldest cemetaries they could which worked the best and come late at night and use a Ouija board over graves and ask them questions which would be answered with uncanny accuracy, they stopped doing it after some freaky things happened he did not want to talk about.
