I'm looking for an experienced and recommended shop for a 308 w/ carbs in the Chicagoland area. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Chris

I did end up taking my Dino to Continental Auto Sports. I was generally dissatisfied with the service provided and would not recommend this location to other 308 owners.

The work included upholstery, electronics, ignition, carburetors and timing belts. The cost projections were quite poor (the actual cost to do the work planned was 3 times the cost estimate). After completion of the initial work I was told the car was repaired. I planned a trip to Chicago (I live out of town) to pick up the car with Continental’s knowledge. Upon arrival I found the paperwork was not in order and had to put several hours into work they should have done to allow me to pick up the car while in Chicago. The car was clearly running very poorly and I returned it for further checking (and I returned to Massachusetts). They reviewed the “repaired” car and found the actual remaining cause. There was an associated increase in cost, but the subsequent repair work completed was not on the initial estimate (so I understand such an increase in cost). In the end, the car was effectively repaired and it appears to be properly functioning but at great cost, time and stress.

    Con:
*Very poor time and cost estimate
    *Seeming inability to locate problems
    *Inability to meet time schedules
*Much work required by me to ensure quality

    Pro:
*Gary in service was very helpful throughout process
    *Final result was satisfactory

Ultimately, my car was repaired and for that I am thankful. I will not take my car there in the future.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Ed's in Palatine IL. Ed is 'old school' and very knowledgeable when it comes to synching multiple carbs.

I'm sorry you had those difficulties, but I've had six different Ferraris serviced at Continental over the past 15 years and have always had superior experiences. The belt service for my '01 550 was completed for significantly less than the estimate given DESPITE my adding a 4 wheel alignment not included in the original quote.

I expect my experience was not representative of their entire operation (otherwise, they would not come highly recommended). There were many stages to my interaction with them, and their performance with every stage following the the start of major work was consistent with my desire to avoid their location in the future. I get the sensation that the significantly lower priced models are not treated with quite the same service as newer vehicles.
