The major overhaul thread kicked me into action mode -

A theory came to mind in two parts:

    a. Does it really make any difference that the cam drive on these cars are belts rather than chains? My thought - a Porsche 911 has chains, but has about the same vulnerability as the TR because of the tensioners...they have a definiate limited life as well and look pretty much like the ones on the TR. I usually kept the chains through many thousand miles, but was religious on changing the tensioners.

Which led me to part b. -

    b. Wonder if they could have put them on the back of the engine instead of the front, thus making it easier to change them...

Which led me to part c. - in which I admit to myself...

    c. Part b. was stupid. Porsche engines are pulled out the bottom too, for the specific reason that this is the fastest and easiest way to do the job.

    P.S.

It is all part of psycho-conditioning myself to own one of these.

My candidate car is undergoing a full major now, as well as a valve job to fix the compression, and transmission overhaul to fix the diff and 1st gear. It has been delayed by really stubborn head attachment bolts on the left bank.

Did you just tell me to go soak my head?

Seriously, this has been going on for weeks now...

I think Mr. SuperGoodWrench is afraid to apply the torque, and of course this is the owners ticket before I write the check...

    No not you...the engine.......LOL!

"They are on there ....stuck tighter than the Gates of Hell, Alan!"
    JRV

That was always the toughest part of disassembly the long bolts (Steel) have corroded into the holes (aluminum alloy)....

They'll come loose ........someday... avoid the temptation of tool wedges, it'll hurt them...easy does it....
