Ok, I"ve just about got the Install complete and it looks AWESOME!!! Off the back header I needed longer bolts (I had bought new ones the same length and was re-using the brass nuts), so I used ones that I had on my work bench. The are the proper length, but they have a stainless nut with a lock washer. Will this suffice or should I purchase longer metric bolts and re-use the brass nuts????

    TIA,

    JIM

The early cars all had hard nuts and bolts, while the later cars went to long bolts with springs. I put mine back together with SS bolts and washers, SS springs, and the longer brass nuts available at parts stores. The system can flex better as the engine torques around without blowing out the gaskets or snapping exhaust bolts.

I would strongly suggest to use spring-loaded bolts. I had used SS bolts with plain nuts and lock-washers and they always vibrated loose and fell off. I have since obtained proper Ferrari spring loaded bolts (from the 288 GTO) and have never had any problems.

Thanks Peter and Paul! I put on the SS bolts for now. I'll order the spring loaded ones and when I do my fluids in a few weeks I'll change them out...:)

Would these be the same as used on the Mondial t (348)?

Could you post the part number(s) and where you ordered from?

I'm a big fan of anti seize on exhaust bolts, even stainless.

I HAVE to ask where you got all these goodies without paying an-arm-and-a-leg....Norwood Performance used to sell the entire assembly, brand-new, for $9 each. Now, you have to go to Ricambi and buy the spring/sleeve/nut/bolt/washers seperately, and with everything that comes to over $25 each, plus shipping.....

I got them from Ferrari of UK.

Paying an arm-and-a-leg? Well, I would have if I bought the 308 bolts (for whatever reason...), but after seeing many photos of the engine bay of 288 GTO's and seeing their exhaust flanges (which looked no different than the 308's) and having access to the parts catalogue on their old site, I was quite blown away by how much cheaper they were compared to the 308 bolts. Yes, parts are all sold individually, but back in 2004 when I bought them, the price for one assembly (1 bolt, spacer, spring and 3 washers) came out to 10.61 UK Pounds. I suppose with today's exchange rate, that would come close to the same price as Ricambi...

The bolts are 70mm long and are 8mm dia. They appear to be galvanised steel (they are not rusty at all). Since they are installed on my car, I can't measure the free length of the spring, but when compressed to the length of the spacer, the length is 27mm (without the washers). Washers are about 2mm thick.

Seeing as I PM'd John the P/N's, I might as well post them here:

    118094 - bolt
    114748 - lock nut
    114749 - spacer
    111743 - spring
112761 - washer (3 needed per bolt assembly)

Keep in mind, these are 288 GTO bolts. They fit my 308 GT4 without problems, but they may not fit all Ferraris. Use the above dimensions as a guide...

I took Peter's advice last year when I was fitting my new exhaust. They worked well on a '78 308 too! They fit just like they were supposed to be there! Like he said, they were a lot cheaper than the 308 studs and I think look better too (not that you can actually see them unless your under the car!).
