There is a small hole in one of the headers on the passenger side (LHD '84 400i #53079). Has anybody had any luck trying to repair small holes? There are a set of headers for sale on eBay for an '80 400i, Ferrari part nos. are 105598, 105599, 105600, and 105601, are they the same as the '84?
I am not opposed to replacing the originals with a set of stainless headers if someone has a good source. I checked out the Quicksilvers product referenced in an earlier thread, a distributor here in Ohio wants $3000.00 for the set.
The remainder of the exhaust is fairly new. The car sounds great as long as you're standing on the driver's side.

P.S. I have been reading the TRX thread, replaced the tires on the 400i, and just my luck, I need another set for an '87 BMW M6.

i can't imagine why any good welder would have any trouble fixing your problem one way or another. i had good experiences patching mine up a few times before i was ready to bite the bullet and get them all done right. that included making jigs and bending new pipes. we reused the flanges.

when you made the new ones, what tubing did you use. They look like pretty small diameter?

sorry for the delay Al, i honestly don't remember. it was '02, before i had the shop, and this was one repair that was done with virtually no personal involvement. this Polish guy was really, really good though. a real craftsman. he cut out all the junk and they fit like a glove when they came back.

I recently had my headers aluminium coated, mainly for cosmetic reasons. After the sand-blasting, they found some small holes, which I had welded before the coating. When I went to pick-up the headers from the shop and carefully checked the work, I found one remaining small hole again. Rather than blasting and welding again, it was closed by plasma-spraying just a thicker layer of aluminium.

Those look great, more subtle than stainless steel.
