On my 1988 3.2, what is the metal the header heat sheilding is made of, is it aluminum? Was there some sort of fibreglass insulation inside/under the metal cover that degrades over time?

How did they get these covers on, I presume they were of different pieces welded together. Did any other Ferrari's of the era use this type of heat sheilding, it seems like a very labour intensive part to make. Did the 308's/3.0 Mondials also have the same headers and sheilding?

Do these headers have thick enough construction that they generally last forever?

Only the Cat-Versions had the additional wrapping/shielding. EU Non-Cat Versions had plain stainless headers.

It was very soft aluminum welded in place with a white fibrous material used as insulation. It was used on all cat equipped cars and on precat air injected cars. It was also used on all turbocharged cars and all TRs.

The headers were usually not a problem but we did replace some that were driven for extended periods not running well and overheating a pipe or pipes.
