was driving my 74 GTS last night It started to back fire a bit more than usual and a bit louder and then at one point the sound of the exhaust changed there was a rapid clicking sound - and there was a hollow sound as well assume I'm a no-nothing do we think that one of those pops caused an exhaust leak ? i was close to home and it was dark and late so i just put it away i did look under the car - as you know it's very low and with my phone light - i couldn't see much of anything it was definitely hot under there i'd been driving an hour - with a few aggressive moments my tires are old too - so I'm gonna pock between my 2 LA mechanics that I have let touch this car any thoughts or suggestions on any of these things - please chime in
Easy enough to idle the car and feel around near the exhaust for air pressure (without touching anything).. just be careful you don’t get burned!
John, as an alternative, rather than use your hand to move around the exhaust, put a white paper towel loosely on a stick and move it around the exhaust, including in the difficult to get a hand in. The paper movement should indicate if/where any leak is. Kevin
Also note post 13 in https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/74-246-gts-backfire-issue.569061/#post-145813872 where a very small weld hole caused mine to pop and bang occasionally.
out of caution - my mechanic is having me flat bed it to his shop as opposed to drive it out there leaving tomorrow - I will report back
