I am doing my diligence before ordering a PPI on an early F430 that I’m considering for purchase. While reviewing the previous service records I see that in 2008 the Exhaust manifolds were replaced under service bulletin #1661 @ 13,000 miles. The cost for this is listed as $1,693.08 + $660.

This seems like a VERY low price to me. Does this seem correct, could the actual exhaust manifolds have been replaced for that price?

When I replaced the exhaust manifolds on my previous F355 it cost something like $8K, could the new car be that much cheaper?

Once year later, campaign #291 was performed “tailpipe reinforcement bracket” @ 17,000 miles.

    So, here are my questions:
    1. Can the actual exhaust manifolds be replaced for $2,353
    2. What is the “tailpipe reinforcement bracket”?
    3. Does any of this help the replaced factory exhaust manifolds last longer?
    4. The car now has 23,000 miles … any comments on expected manifold condition?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts!

Exhaust brackets are known to break and one being broken is not unusual. The headers should be good for life if both were replaced. The low price is very strange but it could be that the warranty repair has a price set by the factory.

    1. Nope. The parts alone exceed $7,000 and labor is pretty intensive, somewhere in the $9,000 for the entire job.

    2. the newer tailpipes have a different bracket with less flexibility than the original one. The reason for cracked manifolds in the F430 is due to movements caused by the entire exhaust system (catalytic converters and mufflers). The cats are not supported to any brackets, while the muffler sits on a bracket bolted to the transmission case, but there is flexibility there.

    3. the newer exhaust manifolds and the new tailpipes (last section bolted in the F430 exhaust system) will help extend or probably resolve the cracking problems.

    4. it all depends on temperatures, driving conditions, wheels balance, road conditions, too much to list. Remove the undertray, start the engine and look for leaks.

It clearly says 'exhaust manifolds'. And the cost of cheapo steel units is perfectly credible. That Ferrari would sell them to you at twice the cost (or more) is a different story :).

I personally wouldn't worry much about it.
If they fail, it is a good excuse to change them for a set of capristo headers with their amazing heat shield.
They not only improve on the standard set up, but also increase bhp by 20 or so.
I have this mod in the pipeline this summer.

Looking at the receipt it appears they were replaced under warranty. The charge you are seeing is probably labor only as FNA was paying the cost of the manifolds.
You could always call the shop and speak with the SA about the work performed.

Doesn't make sense to me. This would have been done under warranty so there should not have been any dollar value listed.
