Greetings Tifosi. I have a 1982 308GTSi. The rear bank (closest to the cabin) exhaust pipe between the cat and muffler that needs some attention with some welding to reconnect to the triangular collar brackets. Just curious if anyone can tell me what this protrusion is on the exhaust pipe towards the muffler? I thought that it might be a sensor but there are no wires attached to it.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

That my friend would be the pipe leading to the egr valve. By the looks of it the egr valve was disconnected.

Thanks Waymar. The exhaust hasn't been touched in the 8 years I have owned the car. The EGR valve must have been removed by a previous owner, but the car has always ran very well without it. Just started getting a little rattle from the pipe now and I am guessing the exhaust must be leaking a bit as it is running a bit rough. Time to get the welder warmed up....
    Cheers!
