I have some fibers coming out of my 355 pipes. My mechanic said it was fiberglass and that I would need to replace the exhaust soon. Currently the 355 has a Tubi exhaust.

First, any thoughts on how long I can wait once "glass" begins to come out before I need to replace it?

Second, What are the pros & cons of various replacement exhausts. Some that come to mind are: Tubi, Capristo, and MILLE MIGLIA.

    Thanks for help!

    Hi Allen
Even though I am not yet a Ferrari owner I have been reading this forum for a year now. I think the headers are cracked not the exhaust. The headers heat shields are filled with fiberglass and it is this material you see coming out. From what I have read you should probably fix this ASAP since it can get into the engine and make a real mess.

If you search the forum you will find a lot of info on this subject.

I also had the car into the dealer last week, both catalytic converters were out, and replaced under warranty (8Yr 80K EPA warranty). The Ferrari dealer noted "muffler has loose baffles and rattles" on the repair bill. The car is a 1999, if that matters.

Does that still sound like headers?

The reason I think it is the headers is that the heat shields surrounding the headres are filled with fiberglass. The isssue has been discussed many times on the forum. Do a search and I am sure you will find the info you need.

The fibers were the cats. Once that cats were replaced no more fibers coming out the pipes! Also, my 355 (according to my new independent servicer) has "updated" headers that aren't supposed to have the same problem as the original ones :)
