Loving the drive, learning the tricks (cab top up record is now...13 minutes!).

But... I having a situation where there is just a lot of exhaust fumes in the cabin when I'm coming to a stop and while at a red light.

Is this normal? I have had many cabriolets over the year and this has never been an issue, and I find it hard to believe it's 'a mid-engine thing'...

    Thoughts?

Thank you in advance, and apologies if this is a thread. Still new to FChat search feature and F-words.

It's not normal, and none of the exhaust system is routed under the cabin in any way so overall that's a bit odd. You could check the access panel under the back seats, although I've driven mine with the panel removed and haven't noticed any fumes, so if that helps there is still more investigation to do.

Does it have a catalytic converter? Mine failed and the smell of the car running was incredibly strong. I know there is a lot of talk about removing them, but it really made a difference on the quality of the smell. That may be something to explore--as in replacing it.

    Good luck.

I have a 3.2 cab and I'm running a "test pipe" (sssshhhhh....) and I do get some "smell" every-once-in-a-while, but it's usually stopped and idling with no breeze or anything or reverse breeze (wind direction happens to be from the direction of the back of the car).

I would say you have a leak somewhere, but that's just a guess.

BTW, test pipe with Tubi and top down = AWESOME! :)

Start the car up from cold and have someone watch the engine bay for leaks as it fires up, you might see a puff of smoke. The donut joints between the pipes go hard and leak or the pipes corrode

Your engine has a series of exhaust test pipes that come off the exhaust manifold. Two banks of 4.......I noticed an exhaust smell in my 3.2 with the top down and found the connection of the test tube and the exhaust pipe to be corroded and open.....allowing exhaust to leave prior to going thru the catalytic converter. My kids would complain of headaches in the back seat. Since then, I have had them welded / fixed sealing up the opening.

Hmmm... Is there a diagram or pics of where to look? Is a lift required?

Again, this is day 3 of Mondial ownership for me, so still very green.

Update. Exhaust shop said "you have leaks in 3 of 4 cylinders on the front side. It's either a leaking gasket that didn't set right, or a cracked manifold. But probably the gasket."

Ok... So... Is gasket replacement a big job (engine out, etc) or normal 'on the rack' job?

The front manifold is a pig to work on,, i seem to recall a u tube video where they tipped the engine to get some more clearance between the engine and the front of the engine bay.
It is most likely the front manifold is full of holes, a few after market firms make these to order and cheaper than ferrari ( if even available)
Have a look on eurospares web site in uk, put in your model and look at the diagrams
22 is the front manifold+ 10 is the donut joint+ set of flange bolts. Joint will be on head drawing.
They will be mega money so aftermarket if needed
