    Hey Everyone, This Saturday, I spent a fabulous day at Road America enjoying the Ferrari Challenge. I had my 02 360 parked in the upper paddock area and at the end of the day, upon starting my car to head home, my car belched more blue exhaust than any car I've seen before. This car has never smoked at all in my three years of ownership. I just don't understand this sudden change. Other threads about a similar subject seemed to dwell more into the color of the exhaust rather than possible causes.

    Because of this sudden change, I'm thinking it's not worn valve guides or rings which would have more-than-likely would have gotten worse in time. In my case, this car started clean at 7:00 am, but was belching smoke on start up by 1:30. Car ran fine and after 30 seconds, exhaust cleaned up nicely.

    I started the car in my shop this morning and again, it filled my shop with blue smoke. Cleaned up within 30 seconds.

    Any thoughts? Thank you.

    Any possibility you overfilled her with oil?

    Thank you for the reply. The car had a minor performed in Feb of this year, about 1200 miles ago by a well respected independent Ferrari repair shop. In addition, I regularily check my oil using the methods I read here (up to temp engine with engine running parked on flat surface) and have always found it to be at the proper level. I have not added any engine oil.

    I have read where a bad pcv valve can mess with the crank case pressure causing a similar problem. Any thoughts on that?

    Something is getting oil up into the intake system, since the odds of a valve guide or valve being bad with sintered steel valve guides is very low.

    Generally dry sump motors don't run a PCV valve. They do need to have a breather which is clean however.

    Just as an example 360 has 2.

    Hard to imagine it isn't from being overfilled.
    Hard to imagine it is not overfilled.

    Forget what you have read here. Have you read and followed the owners manual? Ferrari did build the car. They are probably whose advice should be followed.

    Is the exhaust white, bluish or more dark in color? Another thing to consider here (especially if the smoke is darker in color) is that it could also be from leaking injectors. Excessive gasoline burns off with a dark color (just like if you light a bunch of gas on fire in a jar, the smoke will start to produce soot).

    I'm not any sort of expert on all these new high pressure GDI systems; however, with normal port fuel injection, a leaking injector can produce excessive exhaust at start up, then rapidly clear up once the show is on the road.

    37 is not a PCV valve. That is an evaporative fuel valve.

    The PCV valves are part of the crankcase ventilation system (The CV in PCV). They are attached at the rear corners of the valve covers.
