Greetings all, The exhaust system on my 76 308 is reaching the end of its useful life - I have made some enquiries with both the local agents (South Africa) and as well as Ferrari UK. The headers are pretty much unobtainable unless you know where to look. One source quoted an absolutely extortionate price which I am not prepared to entertain. That leaves me with the options of either having a replacement set fabricated at a specialist shop or to procure from the aftermarket. Neither Tubi nor Capristo seem to offer anything suitable for this model 308. Any suggestions? Thanks Ken
QV can probably help or Eurospares with relatively standard items - there has recently been a similar UK discussion here of louder ones (if it gets censored pm me) : http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=274510&f=63&h=0
You may want to give Don a call at http://www.stainless-exhaust.com/ good quality direct replacement or sports pipes
since you have the Euro (as do I), go with a tru dual exhaust like i had installed. woke up the car like it was meant to be (2 independant 4 cylinders). 78 GTS Euro Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have ordered two ANSA units for my 1977 US cars.....1,700.oo each I do not know if they offer your car. Good luck!
Good choice Big T. I think ANSA's are in keeping with the car - they were fitted as an option when the cars were new and they sound right - it may be a Ferrari but a 360CS it ain't!
Yea, just aluminized plating on the steel, not stainless.. I don't spend much time under there, gazing at them ...LOL! Thanks for the 'thumbs up'! ANSA is absolutely correct for a certain range of years on the vintage cars. Plus having two I need that "fleet rate" on pricing! They were willing to 'play ball'....ANSA is OK by me! The blown out one sounds like straight pipes...I'll be sad to lose it.
Aw... fergit thoze thangs BillyD... Wut'cha need iz a pair'a deezzz!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have no idea on a Euro actually I know they are different... Pay to play Greg328, I could do like the p.o. and have Midas build something and then chop the rear body of the car out, when it didn't fit so well! After ordering replacement body valences and mouldings from FerrariUK, "cheap" and "expensive" were relative terms......I still haven't finished the muffler shroud, but have it patterned up......
You guys spent a lot, try JC Whitney and get some small glasspacks. Have a guy bend some tubes and there ya go for probably under $400 with new bolts, bits, donuts, etc. The setup is light and very free flowing too, perhaps may add some back pressure to it via Trapps. But do these glass pack type mufflers retain "THE FERRARI SOUND" ? I can think of many passages in articles that describe "the scream of the Ferrari" ....., I remember the sound after putting an Ansa system on my 240Z & think that glasspacks would have made it sound like a Chevy Six. Am I wrong here, are mufflers just mufflers? I thought tube size, baffling, back pressure, length & a few other things determined that "SOUND" Bill
Yeah, the glasspacks sound pretty Ferrocious (pun intended). Starrgate (Steve w/F355) and I roared onto the freeway after getting gas, on the way to the LA Concourse at the Rose Bowl. Getting on at Brand Blvd. in Glendale, there is a large double overpass at the end of the on-ramp to the freeway. He has a Tubi, and I had the glasspacks. We both floored it under the tunnel. A lof of fun. But I couldn't even hear the Tubi, mine was so loud. Of course with the new (Calif.) laws (<90db @ 100yds) because of the Harley's... I decided it was best to refit with a 22" Magnaflow instead. Besides... I DO WANT to preserve my hearing!
I've read that what makes a Ferrari sound like "a Ferrari" is the (flat-plane?) crank and the firing order. It's like two 4-cyls, instead of an integrated V8. The glass-packs do make the idle sound more like a Pantera. But acceleration is definately "Ferrari".
Sounds likes this during a lap around Watkins Glen last month... http://www.ispexperts.com/glen050406.wmv Have received MANY compliments on the sound from other track guy (Fcar and non-Fcar guys). As for dB levels, it is a bit louder than stock but equal to a 360CS at 4k RPM where the 360CS's exhaust opens up.

Ahh ok, as for headers you may want to try a used set from http://www.ferraripartsexchange.com/ and then have them sent to Jet-Hot to be coated. The Jet-Hot www.jet-hot.com coating extends the life of the headers while also reducing the allowing the headers to operate at cooler temps. Hope this helps.
