guys, my muffler is low on the passenger side and it is slightly skewed from top view as well. I undid the bolts on the exhaust hangers but obviously the mounts are on springs, and they seem to just move freely without putting any tension on the muffler? Any tips on raising and fine tuning the alignment?

    thanks

If you have a lift available:
    1. Lift car
    2. Use adjustable jackstands and crank the exhaust tips into place
    3. Bolt everything down
    4. Release tension and check

If you have a bottle jack:
    1. Get the rear up on jackstands
    2. Use a bottlejack under the low side of the exhaust tips to get it into place
    3. Bolt things up
    4. Release bottle jack and check

If you just have some wood (more dangerous if jack fails)
    1. Jack up the side of the car with the lower exhaust tip
    2. Place wood under the exhaust tip that you want to raise
    3. Slowly lower the car
    4. Adjust as needed
    5. Bolt everything down
    6. Raise car back up and measure

At least that's what I'd do. Method one has made it really easy.

With a 95 you are pretty much at the mercy of how the Y pipe connects to the muffler. But start by loosening all the muffler and cat clamps. That mean both side where the Y pipe connect to the headers, where the Y connects to the muffler, where the cats connect to the headers and where the cats connect to the muffler. Then try to get every things aligned so that nothing binds or pulls and tighten. If the muffler it still too low it may be that your transmission/engine mounts have collapsed.

Post 2 kinda sums it up. I'll elaborate some.

There are many fitting that must be loosened for adjustment
Up top there are the main mounts for the muffler to frame. Loosen
Muffler to cats, there is a slip fitting. Its mostly for forward/back movement. Loosen if needed.
Cats to headers, must be loosened.
    Headers to Y-pipe/upper cats. Loosen.
You should be able to physically move the muffler by hand.

Use a jack against the muffler protected by a piece of wood to move the muffler exactly where you want it. Then simply tighten everything down
