97 355 GTS After years of research on which exhaust would give me the F1 sound I wanted, I ended up buying a Nouvalari. Wanted a kreissieg but Nouvalari seemed like a good compromise. Huge price difference. So I called Glenn and custom ordered one, told him I didn't care how loud it was as long as it gave me that high pitched F1 sound. Well, they got it right, it sounds amazing. I'm always looking for bridges and tunnels to drive under/through. But it's way too loud at idle.. I thought I wouldn't drive the car much around town but I am. BTW, my car has no catalytic converters. So, do you guys think adding them will reduce the sound quite a bit? How about sports cats? It looks like my options are: -OEM cats. But it feels like going backwards. -High flow cats. But I'm afraid they won't baffle enough. -Going for a Capristo or kreissieg. Again, I'm just trying to mellow out sound below 4000 rpm. Above that I'm fine. Thank you in advance for your help!
Not a F355, but on my 348, the hyper flow high flow cats and tubi exhaust seem to do just fine for me. Idle is loud but not excessive and still has that high pitched F1 sound when going under bridges and tunnels. Best of both worlds Do you have a video of it idling?
Put some cats on it the sound will be much more bearable I have cats and a tubi on my spider and its a blast and I can hear my passenger
I recently reverted back to OEM catalysts, from Tubi test pipes. It's a lot more pleasant before bypass opens. I don't miss the smell of petrol or notice the extra weight or response loss. Now I have the Tubi evolution scream up top and great tone at around town speeds.
Anybody have tried those? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=371242267976&globalID=EBAY-US
I placed back my stock CATs this year after 6 years or so of running straight pipes with my tubi headers and Larini exhaust. The biggest difference is the sound at idle and low RPM's is much better. There is no more drone at 3000 RPM when you are cruising past your neighbors. The F1 scream appears to be still there, but maybe not quite as loud. I think sticking your stock CATs on will satisfy you...
Perhaps straight-through resonators instead of converters. That would tone the noise down a bit without adding heat or losing performance.
I always try to keep heat to a minimum. If nothing else, it helps longevity of all of the surrounding hoses and plastic bits. Also reduces the chance of a fire starting.
Not sure if it makes a difference with straight pipes but are you sure your bypass valve is working correctly and not wired or stuck open?
Your video says that you wired your bypass open. Close that sucker and it won't be so loud. "Published on Apr 7, 2015 Cat Bypass + Bypass valve wired open + Nouvalari Super Sport Exhaust."
Ahhh. 02 sensor fooler. I have the same thing done to my Exige. It works. OP stated his system is "catless", so I'm assuming he's got an after-market straight through y-pipe as well. Curious to see what he did there.
Yeah, I've ran cars with those for years. What are the reviews on aftermarket y pipes? Does that make it too loud or effect the pitch of the sound?
Try motorcycle baffles. Available cheap on ebay. They are available in various lengths and diameters. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-EXHAUST-BAFFLE-FOR-1-3-4-PIPES-ON-MOST-MOTORCYCLES-/131571103851?hash=item1ea23fb86b&vxp=mtr Really helped on the Larini exhaust on my Mondial t. You'll need 4. Instead of using set screw, requiring drilling hole in tip, weld (spot or tack, not sure which) 3 nubs every 120 degrees around and force fit in. Little tabs on baffles can be adjusted with a screwdriver after baffle is in to change sound.
They call it Cel-Fix, I have had them on my Honda S2000. Works perfect. Still looking for 348 hi flow cats
