On my main company's '89 Mondial T Cab, it has a sport exhaust with the maker unknown. I do not think it is a Tubi. It has been recommended to me that I convert it back to OEM. What are the advantages and disadvantages of converting it back to OEM?
A Ferrari dealer. It now has two pipes, one on each side. Origional had two pipes on each side for a total of four. Dealer said that it would sound better with OEM. Everyone that they have sold aftermarket to has gone back to OEM. Or so they claim. I thought that aftermarket gave better performance and better sound. Unless the engineering is different for a Mondial t.
Dave. The guys at Algar are recommending this? Why? For sound? I dunno, I'd re-think that and worry about some of the bigger problems the car has. Or is this a different car than the one that got beat up in the recent theft? DM
The sound he is talking about is the sound of your money in his wallet. The stock exhaust sounds like crap in the ones I have heard. Everyone I hear from with a 348 or t talks about how great the aftermarket exhausts sound. Good luck - get a muffler that makes the sound that you want, not the dealer. best rt
Good morning Dave, I believe in praising in public and criticizing in private. Algar has been good to me. Just trying to do due diligence without ruffling any feathers. Have fun driving, Dave
Then why post this at all? Everyone on the East Coast forum knows your car is at Algar. Certainly many of the folks on the chat have seen your multiple posts about your car's woes. To state that "a dealer" suggested it, when the only possible dealer could be Algar, makes this claim disingenuous. If it's Algar, then say so. I've ALWAYS Found them to be extremely honest in their dealings with me and with others I know who use them. They are, at least in my book, a class A organization from top to bottom. If it's not Algar, then you should let us know who it is, so that the folks here can be aware of this practice. And finally, is this for your stolen/recovered car? Are you finally getting it back on the road? And how are you feeling? Did everything go okay for you with the surgery? DM
DAVE WHY START WITH UP GRADING EXHAUSTS OR DOING ANYTHING ELSE?? YOUR CAR IS IN PIECES AND STILL NOT REPAIRED AT ALGAR..MONEY IS DUE THEM... YOU JUMP THE GUN TOO MANY TIMES AND YOU ARE BECOMING "NON-BELIEVING" ON THE PUBLIC CHAT ROOM........... YOUR PAL, BRUCE
DAVE NOT AN ANGRY PERSON, ACTUALLY IT TAKES ALOT TO GET ME GOING... I HAVE BEEN WATCHING YOU FOR YEARS...MY FEELINGS HAVE NOT CHANGED ABOUT YOU..........................AND YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT YOU.. BRUCE
I accept that you hate people you have never met and have never had any dealings with. First contact with you was when you told me not to come to NJ to consult with Johnson & Johnson. I accept that you have unmet power needs. Couple of months ago you said that I did not own a Ferrari. I guess I am making progress (LOL), but I do not really care.
DAVE GO PLAY IN TRAFFIC............I ACCEPT YOU HAVE MENTAL DISORDERS, AND YOU SHOULD SEEK HELP, ASAP..................I NOW HAVE TO GO BACK TO WORK.
Dave, Do you really need the advise on wether or not to go back to your stock exhust? Haven't you been driving that car as a daily driver before it got stolen? If so you know if you need the OEM back or not. I'm with Bruce on this one there is something about a major percentage of your posts that rings a little odd.
Dave. Ignore the noise. Let's get back on topic. 1. How you feeling? Getting better I hope. (No B.S. all other things aside, one's health is not something I make light of.) 2. Exhaust. Did YOU like the way it sounded? If so, no need to change. It's not like you're gonna squeeze an extra 20 HP out of the car, right? 3. Is this the car at Algar finally getting back on the road? OR did you pick up another car and keep it a secret from all of us here? 4. Try to enjoy the day, with or without the help of my pal BRUCE. Dave
Noone is correct 100% of the time. A Ferrari Technician that I trust recommended that I go back to OEM for the reasons I listed above. I am not an expert in this area. However for an example, it seems that a tubi on a 360 really increases the sound at low RPMs. This might distrube neighbors in a residential area. A tubi on a 355 sounds different to me. I have been told both increase efficiency. Power/efficiency is also a function of exhaust. I have been told that aftermarket is almost always better. However, my aftermarket only has two pipes. It would seem that the four pipes of OEM would be more efficient. I think the four pipes of OEM would look better. I have never heard a stock Mondial t. So is the Great Technician correct in this area or did he make his rare mistake? Hence the question.
Man, the tip configuration has little or no effect on the efficiancy of the assembly........it's a styling detail..... And it's a Mondial not a 360, the Tubis are very expensive due to the polished material construction.. Keep what you have, when it rusts out call ANSA!!!! ANSA is a Ferrari Art car sponsor! Eveready batteries....there when you NEED 'em!
...and two identical Ferraris is ALWAYS a good idea.......... Confuses the heck out of the local cops, they never can keep up with the 5 digit VINS, the computer blows up........
Dave, another option is to go to a local exhaust shop and have them chop the current tips off and weld on a set of dual tips. I have a tubi on my 355, and that's all it is, one pipe coming out each side and at the last moment, a little 'Y' piece to give it dual tips. I have included pics from the naplesmotorsports.com website (no affilitation etc. just came up first on a Google image search) of the 355 tubi, which shows this clearly, and also the mondial t system, which is the same, but less clear in the pic. I guess it's your choice.... AT LEAST 2K for a new system, or $50 at a local muffler shop.... I'd go the $50 if you are presently happy with the sound. I love it!! Knowing Bruce as I do (an unwavering straight shooter) I can actually hear his voice saying these words as I read them! Bootiful!
The Mondial t has always sounded fine. No complaints. Dave M and others: thank you for your thoughts. I like the prestige and beauty of Ferraris. I dislike the jealousy and hate it sometimes generates. However, Ferraris are more fun to drive than any other car(s) I know. Therefore, I always expect to have a Ferrari or Ferraris. It seems the 12s are better for straight acceleration. The 8s seem better balanced for twisties. The Dino seems like a h.ll of a fun street legal go cart. I like the looks of 348s, 355s, 360s/430s, TRs, etc. far better than the Mondials. I am more action than stately/formal so many of the older Ferraris do not appeal to me. I think Algars is honest. However, I think their average customer is mainly interested in a perfect show car. On the other hand I am mainly interested in a daily fun machine that is virtually 100 % reliable and looks like a new car, but not necessarily perfect. I think Algars and I are looking at the same car with different mind sets. Algars first estimate for mechanical work (not counting body and interior) was $20,000 to $24,000. Then they got it down to around $17,000. They said that checking the car and doing the estimate was around $800. So I gave them a deposit of $3,000. They said they would hold it while I decided I was impressed with this. Algars also said they would work with my parts if desired. I was also impressed with this. Currently have a positive balance with them of around $2,000. There are still some questions outstanding. Exhaust was one of them. Also they recommended replacing the entire wiring harness. Then they found out it was no longer available. Replacing the entire harness seems like overkill. Also have found a source that claims it has them. So this is undecided. They want to replace the entire fuse box. There are only a few wires ripped out and the car starts. Also I want to redo the fuse box similar to what airchuck in Atlanta did to his 348. Replacing the fuse box would make sense for a perfect show car, but maybe unnecessary for my needs. I use a Ferrari for things like grabbing a girlfriend plus a dog and then going out to have fun. The Mondial series is not perfect, but might be the best set of compromises. As such, this might be the only Ferrari I ever get. One of the things that has been slowing me down is health. Having a doctor tell me I might only be alive for a few months slows me down. Right now the last surgeries are scheduled for Oct 20. However, have picked up an infection from the last surgeries. Right now am on four 500 mg of Cephalexin a day for 14 days. Do not know if this will interfere with the remaining surgeries. They were suppose to let me know yesterday, but have not yet. A full recovery is now expected. Have fun driving, Dave
There are several reasons why I think Algars is honest, but an obvious reason is the fact that they lowered their estimates.
