I fly a lot, comercial jets of course, but I was wondering if the 2 or 3" extra inches imposed by the FAA on exit rows "for safety reasons in case of an evacuation", are really worth the milllions of hours of agravation , sleep deprivation and back issues imposed on the poor souls whom have to endure long fligths of torture not being capable of reclining the seats a little. I wonder how many times in the histiory of commercial aviation those seats have really caused someone to not exit the airplane in an emergency situation.....it sounds to me that this is just politics from FAA...trying to show they care for us...comments anyone?

I fly a lot too and in my experience (almost exclusively on AA), only the seats right next to the exit don't recline. All the rest do recline and the extra legroom is worth it to me.

    Just politics????? That's just nuts.

Why don't we just take out the exit doors altogether... they're hardly ever used, right?

I've been flying for 42 years, and I hardly ever recline the seat, even if the seat has that capability. I just find the seat more comfortable when it's fully upright. I don't even recline the seats in my cars much. So I guess I'm easier to please than most.

The last time I flew there were 3 very large "Lovelies" seated in the emergency exit row. When asked if they knew their responsibilities... they all laughed and said "um-hmm". The fourth only knew how to say "yes".

Yeh, but when one person reclines, so does everyone behind them. Sorta like dominoes...

Given the skimpy room between seats in coach these days, I think it's
WELL past the time they should just disable the "recline" function of ALL seats.

No, but I've flown ATL to LGW (on a "redeye"), and I didn't recline the seat on that trip, either!
