I am trying to get a feel for the exotic car detailing market in Chicago. A few friends of mine started detailing exotic cars a couple of years ago offering at home service. We started doing it because my neighbor who owns a yellow 360 asked us to detail his and referred us to a couple of friends. What is the current detailing market like and does anybody offer an "at home" service where they come to you? Any input is greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

The "On-Site" detailing business has been very good for me over the last 10 years or so. I have always enjoyed detailing cars, and for me, it is a form of relaxation, as well as an opportunity to make some decent money. I would think that Chicago is a good area to offer this kind of service, however, you need to remember to keep your service PERSONALIZED. I am very fortunate to have a customer base of collectors that put their TRUST in me, both with their cars and homes, as I have garage door openers and entry codes to many of my customers' homes. This makes it easy for them to just give me a call and I can get their cars done while they are out of town or at work or whatever. I detail every car as if it were my own pride and joy, and that is what makes my service different than any other detailer. Also, you have to think about who is going to be doing the actual work. I do ALL the detailing myself, which my customers like because they know the kind of work I do, and I keep eveything confidential. My customers wouldn't use me if they had to have a different guy showing up to their garage all the time. Keep your detailing service Private, Personalized, and Professional and you should do fairly well.
