My customer parked his RR Phantom at a "very safe" parking spot (not parking lot) over night. Morning construction totally messed up his stunning paint job. Rushed to his house in NJ and detailed the car ASAP. Damage was not THAT bad but still not great. He learned a lesson the hard way. Before and after pics below.

Before (there is a little dust/dirt on the car) - pic of trunk

After - pic of drivers side of rear bumper (which already had a nice amount of damage)

Dont park your exotics on the streets of NYC over night (or for more than 5 minutes!)

The paint process on the Phantom is the best i have ever seen and its often very hard to show paint defects in pictures. In person the paint looked terrible.

The owner said there was no parking in front of him or behind him, but that was where the construction vehicles parked.

Frankly, I'm amazed at how many guys leave their exotics in parking garages. Isn't this just asking for trouble? Wouldn't it be cheaper in the long run to by a beater for NYC rather than risk the cost of repairs and reduced value? You could still attach magnetic fender badges...

If you're a true car lover, you buy it and you drive it, in NYC or anywhere. And if you break it or mess it up, you fix it. Man up zen!

    Garage queens need not apply...

"Fiduciary responsibility" and "New York City vehicle ownership" are diametrically opposed concepts. If you live in NYC you do not need to own a car. Period.

BUT! Lots of people in New York City own cars (some more than one). If you do you want your own vehicle, you can be a sheep and get a BMW or a SAAB or a Mercedes or some other "beater".

Or you can do it right.

At the moment, I'm scouting a car to leave in NYC while I "do my time" out in Los Angeles. I'll park it in a garage. With the roof off. Uncovered. I'll drive it dirty. I'll leave the door dings. It's a badge of honor among the initiated. It's a point of confusion among those who will not, cannot understand.

So, all you "player haters" out there can go back to rubbing your cars with diapers and lotion, storing them in climate controlled environments with proper humidity control, driving only after the rain, salt and sand have gone... but for me and the others (you know who you are) we're gonna drive until there's no paint left on our bumpers, until there's a line of brake dust up the front quarter, all four of our 19" wheels are bent and our carbon fiber lip spoilers are but splinters on 7th avenue... until our seat bolsters are worn to the foam, our clutches are powder and our doors have the pock-marked complexion of Edware James Olmos... until our tires are as bald as Ving Rhames, our cabin squeaks like Rosie Perez, our carpets are matted like that guy from Black-Eyed Peas... until they pry the keys from our cold dead hands. At a traffic stop. On the West Side Highway. And Lupe is nowhere to be found.

...or until we need to park. Then, we willingly give our keys to an illegal immigrant from a country where "putting it in 'H'" means drive... who is working as a valet and knows no english... who answers to the name of "Crasho".

That man can park my car.

    In NYC.

    Anyday.

    MAN UP!

Driving it, I agree; but you don't leave a Van Gogh in the sunlight, or a Picasso in a moldy basement...

There's only 1 "Femme aux bras croises". There's a ton of 360s, relatively speaking.

If I had Jim G's collection? I'd change my tune, but until then I'm gonna drive until...

You have insurance for a reason-- and barring Napolis, all of our cars are replaceable.

I disagree. Sure insurance can replace the $ value, but money can never replace the time, effort, and emotion invested into cars like these. When you compare the high production (by Ferrari standards) run of 360s to the number of Camrys out there, you might as well be talking about a Starry Night. So here's the question, do we, as owners, have a responsibilty to "protect" these cars? Seems like Enzo himself wrestled with the same question.
