These clubs are slowly popping up in wealthier (car-obsessed) markets like Scottsdale and Silicon Valley & Miami. Members pay $5k - $15k/ year and have access to a paddock of interesting cars like Ferraris, Lambos, Porsches, Astons, vintage Vettes & Jags, etc. Depending on what you pay, you get 15-45 days/year to drive.

What are your thoughts on these clubs? I personally like the concept... getting the variety and the enjoyment of some fun cars, without needing a 10-car garage or the expense of maintaining an exotic(s). Is anyone currently a member and can you share your experience?

The only thing I can compare it to is aircraft rental - access to a fleet that let's you fly a variety of aircraft that you are licensed to fly. Invariably, after a period of time, there are squawks on the equipment, an inop radio, crazed plexi, intermittent problems that gound aircraft. I always owned my own and saw to it's maintenance - airplane, boat or car. The obvious downside is that you are limited to what you can afford. I'd rather have a well maintained 308 than a troublesome TR.

I'd only consider something like that if I were undecided what I wanted to buy.

Sorry but I prefer a more intimate long term relationship over short affairs.

there is a dealership near me that gave this a shot. they had to give up because of insurance problems. If they start it up again I will probably join. I would not mind paying 10-15k a year to drive exotics (aside from what I own). I usually own cars for 2-3 years anyway so this would be something interesting to try out.

It's a great idea if you want a styling car to drive on weekends, but if you are a collector or want to be one, then the ache of having to return the car when you are done with, knowing that some unworthy punk will have his filthy hands on your beauty, will be unbearable.
Be careful getting a taste. You won't be satisfied with just one bite every so often :)

The use model just doesn't suit me. I drive my cars to the office, weekend shopping, etc. I also get the "got to go for a drive" urge that cannot be well served by the clubs. A race track country club with a stable of GT race cars would be another matter entirely.

I agree me too, hownever if I did this I would still have my 360 and other cars. this would be an addition to the other cars.

I look at them this way...its driving cars that I wouldnt otherwise own. I dont need to "own" the cars to enjoy them. I still have my collectors and/or exotics that cycle through my garage. For the price of payments for a year on one of them I get to drive 10 other cars, and dont have to pay insurance, maint., storage....
