So then the salesmen have a choice. They can either ignore all one hundred (as these guys apparently elected to do) or engage all the potential buyers in enough conversation to determine if they're tire kickers or not. ALL car sales men have to, at some point, make this kind of determination because it's true that most people are, in fact, tire kickers. But some are serious purchasers and a salesman can't find that out by hiding in an office.
It's a two way street... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN65mEhgpqQ]Robert DeNiro - Italian Car Salesman - YouTube[/ame]
When I was looking to purchase, I was never treated poorly, but they never followed anything up either. I went to a minimum of 4 dealers (one Ferrari, at least three others that sell Ferrari) and none of them were concerned with follow up. I went into all three ready to buy if they had what I was looking for. I wasn't about to dress "special" for these guys. I wasn't dirty, sloppy or bum like. I was just wearing a typical jeans and a button down (or Polo type shirt) as always. I went in knowing exactly what I wanted. I explained that I was looking for a 2002+ Modena in Rosso Corsa. I also explained that the only deal killer was a convertible and I may have been flexible on anything else. None had what I was looking for and I left my info for them to call me as I was ready to buy if the proper car came in. Well, as of now, almost two years later, not ONE called me to try to sell me a car!! I've been following the online sales of those places and I'm pretty sure that most places had at least 2 or 3 Modenas come through since then. This can mean one of only a few things: 1) They thought I wasn't going to buy 2) They didn't care about selling a car 3) They were too lazy to follow up 4) They are incompetent at their jobs and should be working elsewhere To add insult to injury, I purchased my car from far away and have since been Back to at least two of them. I explained that I already found my car, but my brother is looking to purchase as well, so if they get something in to call or email me. Well, what do you know, STILL NO CALL!! Not only did I "qualify" my self, but gave them a SECOND chance! As I said prior, those places had a least 2 or 3 more Modenas come through since then as well. Very strange, I'll never understand it, but all I can say is that I'm not looking forward to purchasing my next Fcar.
i've never experienced bad service at any ferrari dealer. worst and only really bad experience that i can recall was at numerous audi dealers.
I've met some Dbags but I've also met some great people Bret at Prestige Lambo, Benn @ FMFL, Werner RIP @ Greenwich all great guys
+1. Local Audi guy was so bad we left after telling them we had every intention to buy that day, went across the road to carmax and bought our A4 that we drive today. Then write them a letter telling them what I thought about the experience... never heard back from them. Local Audi = sucked.
Well, I called Continental Motors outside of Chicago. I told them I had two Ferraris and set an appointment to drive a 599. As you can see on my thread, they never took it out of the middle of their showroom, told me that I could not drive it, and after 5 minutes, I asked myself "why am I here". I bought a car from another dealer, sent the owner a copy of the sales receipt, and he never bothered to answer. Talk about making new clients!! They still have their 599, now six months later. Lots of Used car dealers, as well as new car dealers, have no business sense. Go figure. Ken Goldman
Interesting that this thread was necro'd right after I had a harrowing experience buying a car from Ferrari of Newport Beach.
Holy old thread! Casey at Ferrari of DC was my salesman and was a pleasure to deal with! My calls/emails with other dealers that had a car/spec I was interested in buying was disappointing overall.
+3 for Algar in Philadelphia Decades ago, I went in there as a recent college grad a year into my first job because they had an F40 in the showroom. I had never seen one and just wanted to drool over it. The salesman came right over and I made it clear I was not a buyer and just wanted to see it because it was my dream car and promised not to touch it! I was hoping he would just let me look. To my surprise he went and got the keys opened the car and engine compartment and really gave me the grand tour. It made an impression. It was so above and beyond. Just letting me look would have been more than enough! After seeing the other comments about Algar--looks like I am not the only one that was treated well there. And above all, probably says a lot about the type of business they run there at Algar--pure class act.
I live in Houston. Expo is not really where the greatest cars end up. With that said, if you’re walking around outside, I wouldn’t expect a salesman to walk outside like Toyota. Also, if you are in the showroom, they may also not approach you. This is because many people show up every hour to just look at cars and leave. If you’re serious, say “excuse me, I’m interested in this car”. I would prefer to buy from somewhere other than expo. A 360 is a great car but they don’t show up at ferrari of Houston much. I would expand your search to nationwide. Look for a car with service history and invoices. You may have to jump on a plane to go inspect a couple of cars. You may need to find a great mechanic local there and arrange a PPI. This isn’t super easy stuff. If this seems like too much work then just double your budget and buy a 458. Ferrari of Houston has one for 199k. It is a Ferrari approved car with a 2 year power train warranty. You can also finance it 84 months.
I could not agree More the Ferrari of South Bay is fantastic. Never buy something from someone you do not care for.
I will say that when I walk into my local Ferrari dealership the entire staff knows my first and last name. Not just my salesman, but every salesman, the finance guy, the receptionist, the greeter, and the managers. I am also a pretty new client. I have been a client a little bit less than a year one day I went in there and my salesman wasn’t even there. I told a different salesman that I liked his Ferrari shirt. two days later, a package arrived at my house. It was the same Ferrari shirt. I would say that all true Ferrari dealerships, have a small family atmosphere. However, the OP walked into a place that is far from a Ferrari dealership.
Also agree Algar is great. I had never been there before, just dropped by with my nephew, driving my jeep grand Cherokee. The salesman was very nice, told him my nephew wanted to see some cool cars. He didn’t know I owned any Ferraris. When we left, he hurried after us to stop us and give my nephew a Ferrari poster in a nice Ferrari bag. Made his day!
No. Why would you ask that? Pretty weak on your part. I merely pointed out you were addressing and insulting a dead guy; that makes you look foolish.
