I went to an event tonight, and yup, they had an alligator for an appetizer!
It was very disturbing, didn't eat anything but bread and cheese.
Who knows what the Chicken really was ;)
I have been to hundreds of restaurants, never seen an alligator on the menu.

    What's the deal?

You can buy alligator at the grocery store here in Texas. I think I have some in the freezer.

There's a fancy hot dog shop here in Chicago that offers a "Game of the Week" sausage. It was alligator a couple of weeks ago. I worked up my nerve to try one, but $8.50 is a little pricey for a hot dog. And, you can't get in the door since they were featured on the local PBS's dining out show.

This week's is a combo of elk, venison, buffalo, and caribou. He's calling it the "Mountain Man Sausage".

Alligator is pretty plain by itself. Much like chicken, it is dependant on spices and sauces

Is the event over? If not, go back and have some.

Caught a few sharks on New Year's Eve '73/'74. Family friends who also caught a few when they weren't busy crabbing for our wee-hour crab feast prepped one shark on New Year's Day & I lived to tell about having shark steak.

In some all you can eat places down here you will see gator chunks and frog's legs piled up next to all the other stuff.

I haven't seen nutria in a restaurant yet. I'm told it was being tried at a few places about 15 years ago.
