Now, I was intending on just posting a little article of questions regarding the long heard of drug dealer in a Lamborghini Diablo that would run at night without lights at 200(+/-)mph smuggling whatever...

Tried to find info online to see if it had ever been done, but turned up nothing.

We've all heard the myth, and this Discovery Chanel Mythbusters forum talks about it as well...

    http://community.discovery.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9551919888/m/1481998939

    Any thoughts? Any facts?

    Could it really be done?

I like the blog comment that says--Cops radar is Instant On and is not on all the time--Yea right!! Anyway-I call 100% BS, not possible, noway, never, nada, nohow-----It is alot safer buying a Buick Lasabre, gutting it and filling it full of dope and driving the speed limit from south to north....

A buddy of mine is Maryland St. Police and they turn on the box, but from the point they turn it on it does read each speed of every oncoming car. But, it is not always on.

If it is on, it is tracking speeds of every car it passes. Mine stays on the entire time I am at work---I also have front and rear antennas, so I can push a button on the remote and flip from front to rear..

Problem 1: Diablo reaching 200 MPH on a highway?... impossible. Not that the car can't do 200 Mph but not on a normal highway. The roads would eat it and the tires alive over the long haul.

Problem 2: Driving 200 MPH without lights? You might as well be wearing a blindfold.

Problem 3: Why even do it? You'd be better off in a gray rented Ford Escort going 55 to avoid cops.

Problem 4: Helicopters, cop radios, and cell phones.

Problem 5: You have to stop eventually

Problem 6: And the coup de gras...(and I have personal experience of this by driving 1-95 in Florida) 70+ year old drivers of 82 Cadillac Sevilles driving 25 mph clogging up the fast lane.

I suppose it could be done, but why bother with an exotic? That's a lot of money to flush down the toilet when the DEA seizes your car.

As an aside, I heard an interview with Alex Roy (Team Polezei) where he said they use infrared cameras and TV monitors, as you get motion sickness from using the nightvision goggles at speed.

I agree in theory... I think it could be done. If that pri*k Alex Roy can fly across the US in record time in plane sight, im sure you could rig something to do this with a high exotic at night.

    - Matte black - looks cool, less light reflects
    - assist vehicle (obviously not doing 200) carrying a couple extra wheels and fuel.
    - night vision system installed like what FLIR offers
    - Police scanners
    - V1 (not that it would even really matter)
    - and is there any way to snub the sound - dull it out - of a Ferrari?

with a real close look into it, I think you may be able to do it.

Just the mere turbulence that the car would generate would be enough to alert the cop. Not to mention the noise. Now, that said, I'm not sure the cop would bother going after him. I wouldn't and it would be dangerous to do so.

Besides, at a constant 220mph, your tires aren't lasting very long.

    Cool myth.

In high school there was a myth that was exactly the same here, except he was supposed to run between Murfreesboro and Mt. Juliet on 840. :)

Maybe it's the same guy--he does Florida on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Tennessee on MWF. :)

That's why you take 95 to 85, and then take 85 to 75, and then take 75 down into Florida (using the 495 loop in south Georgia) and then hit the Florida Turnpike. It's flat, straight and boring, but there are no geriatric Sunday drivers on it (at least not at three in the morning).

I've heard the same myth, only the culprit was driving a black Countach with black wheels, no lights, and night vision goggles, running from L.A. to Vegas. Gotta love the myths.

....and was there two cool looking, well dressed dudes chasing him in a white Testarossa ?

Honestly, great myth. I have a Diablo and doing 200mph on any highway?....ohhhh....I don't think so.

If you were a drug smuggler, why would you drive the most noticible ( to women & cops ) car ever built? Drive a silver nissan no one will ever see you.

Like on cannon ball run " radio is faster "

This is actually a true story. The car was making runs from Miami to North Florida once a month. It was 1995 or 1994 Lamborghini Diablo VT Black on Black.

The local sheriff department confirmed this as well. Was not sure if it was drug smuggling or not.

i do know this actually happened:

when the Stealth F117's were still secret, a overly enthusiastic soldier from Fort Stewart got a hold of the special black radar absorbent, flat black paint.

he then painted up a chevy S10, that had a corvette v8 engine and trans in it, and he would run up and down I-95 doing whatever, but at high speeds.

a particular Ga State Patrol Officer noticed the truck after awhile, and somehow during the traffic stop the paint came into question.

the military police got involved, and it did not play out well for the soldier. i dont believe any drugs or smuggling were involved, but the speeding was bad enough, not to mention the paint was very, very expensive, and at the time, was a National Security matter, as was the theft and misuse of the paint (Federal / Military court).

why anybody would have illegal stuff in an exotic is beyond me, i get targeted enough for being young looking and white, and they want to search the cars or pull you over to say "hi".

i have NO ISSUE with Law Enforcement, but to call more attention to yourself in an exotic, while committing Felonies seems pretty stupid to me.

    cool thread topic though!

    stay safe.

Okay okay.... it was me doing those 200 mph drug runs in Florida. But it wasnt a Lambo...way too conspicuous . It was my Highly modified Fiero GT.

So if anyone ever claims this didnt happen just show them my post. If its on the internet it must be true.

Considering the cargo capacity of a Diablo, wouldn't it make more sense to just package it carefully and just let FedEx do the work?

I know of an Enzo owner in the area who regularly takes the car on I75 from Miami to Naples at over 180mph.

    This is nothing new.
