I need to order a new expansion tank for my 308... Vin starts with F106AS which I always thought was the Aus/ Asia designation (remembering the car came from HK) but looking at the pictures on Superformance website, mine looks the the general (not Aus /US market) type? No long metal tube angling off from the bottom corner.

    Advice please...

All the 308 GTS chassis numbers start with F106AS ( nothing to do with Asia/ Australia). According to the F-Register yours is a '79 UK Spec car delivered in HK so the "short pipe" tank appears the correct one.
The number is the chassis number, VIN's are 17 digit and where progressively introduced from 1981

Thanks a lot Mike! I was looking at a website that's referenced elsewhere on Fchat, but it didn't list the AS bit.

It is developing pinholes up near the top; not a big deal at present but it seems easier to replace than repair (it has had some repairs in the past IIRC). Superformance price is about $500 for a new one that bolts in; anyone have a cheaper source?

It is a big deal, the metal is so thin that there are holes in it!

Hot, hot water under pressure; what could possibly go wrong?

No worries Karen, I had mine repaired a few years ago because of the same problem.

I priced a new one and it was US $600 at the time. Thanks, but no thanks.

Boiler maker at work fixed mine for me and it's still good for now.

If it develops more leaks later on, then I will remove it and repair it again. It's a very quick and easy job on my car as well as your 308 I am sure.

yep, not being driven at present, already spoken to the workshop - being done together with a leaky exhaust pipe...
    Any better source than superformance?

Thanks Pap, just thinking that maybe one new one in 16 years (min) probably isn't unreasonable... Also some folks in the 308 thread mentioned that the labour costs in cleaning and repair almost came to new cost anyway...(I don't have a pet boiler make r to hand :()

Not sure what you were on about here but I was "fins on" this morning - easy swim out but the hardest swim back in ever! No clean waves, just a big messy slop that was pulling me off the bottom (I try to get close to the bottom when going under big waves, usually avoids the worst of the churn) and bouncing me around like an Omo ball in the wash! Fed up with this weather - feel like I've been cheated of half my summer.

Karen SP sell 2 types.....The OEM one and then they do an aftermarket one that looks exactly the same except it is in Aluminium.....That's the one I got for mine as I figured it will last a lot longer than the steel ones.....For some reason Ferrari used crap steel and crap rubber so there are far better alternatives out there IMO......
