Has anyone replaced the expansion valve in a 456? I think all models are the same. Is it something that can be done from the passenger compartment or is a dash/evap pull necessary?

I asked in the 456/550/575 forum but no one knows.

    Thanks.

The pipes seem to be held in with an H shaped bracket

Not sure which side of the firewall it is, but the expansion valve seems to be a few inches from the firewall, so maybe on the cabin side.

Remove black sticky stuff and fish around for the bolt. You may be able to get a right angled socket(?)/allen key(?) in there.

Normally the valve should be in a "cold" area in order not to fool the sensor. That's what the cork tape is all about: shield the sensor from heat.

Even with a huge amount of insulation, not sure I would install a valve in the engine bay. So as a rough guess, I would say it is on the opposite side of the firewall (?).

Don't forget to reseal the new valve with cork tape. It's not cork anymore, but that's how this insulation self sealing tape is called.

The valve is in the cabin, close to the firewall. Valve location is not the issue. It's the removal of the hoses attached to the valve that might be an issue. It would just be a matter of removing the insulation and looking, but I think Stu wants to know the answer before he does that.

That is correct. I want to know if this a normal job or a ferrari nightmare (belts on a 308). If the latter then I will wait until I pull my dash for recovering.
