Does anyone have experience with a Ferrari damaged in shipment? Was it repaired at the port? Was it disclosed?

No personal experience but I do know that it happens often, gets repaired by specially designated facility for these repairs and OFTEN, it is NOT reported or disclosed.... even to the receiving dealer.... I've been in the car business since 1997 and have seen brand new cars with repairs and there is not accompanying disclosure when we sell the car. If damage happens at the dealer and gets repaired, the law in Florida is if it's over $600 worth of damage, it must be disclosed to the buyer.... less than that, no disclosure.

What Todd said is correct. If damage occurs at the port they have no obligation to disclose anything. The dealer wouldn’t even know and would just think there was a delay clearing customs.

I learned this lesson years ago. I had a MB SLS years ago and was at the dealership when it arrived on the truck from the port. I took delivery of it later that day once it was prepped. A few years later I go to sell the car and the dealer who was buying it took a paint meter to the entire car and sure enough one of the panels had been painted. Come to find out it was damaged at the port, repaired and never disclosed the my dealer. They had no knowledge whatsoever but they assisted in my investigation and I learned about the repair facility that Todd mentions above.

Many manufacturers consider their port locations part of the factory. Many new cars are touched up or have minor cosmetic repairs before being delivered to the dealer without a requirement to disclose as if the repair was done on the original assembly line. Some will even install options at the port facility and call them OEM installed. Your dealer wouldn’t know or be able to disclose any of this.

Was it really damaged or was it just the crappy paint quality Ferrari is currently putting out but still charging $30-40k extra for?

Theoretically damage on the container ship is not reported in the US because it occurred on nonUs territory so our laws do not apply
I nice little loophole for the manufacturers
I wonder what ever happened to those salvaged cars from the flooded container ship?
