Much is made of German experimental aircraft of WWII, but I have not ever really seen as much about Allied designs. I stumbled across a book while killing time at the local Barnes and Noble that covered the XP-54, XP-55, and XP-56. These were in a design competition issued by the US Army in 1939 for "unconventional" aircraft designs. I had never seen them before, and love the looks of these. Apparently performance of all three was not too spectacular, but they are neat designs and show a lot of creative thinking. I would love to build an RC model of one of these someday. Just thought they were neat and figured I'd throw out and share a few pics of these seldom-discussed planes. Anyone happen to have any personal experience with any of these, or seen them in person?
