Hey guys, just got word that an experiemental airplane went down in my hometown. My cousin was the first responder on scene (Suffolk PD) and unfortunately, the two on board did not make it. Quite a downer as there is a fly in and air show going on this weekend, and it is a very tragic event during what is supposed to be fun and celebratory.

Condolences to the families, RIP. Be careful out there.

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Two people are dead after an experimental airplane crashed near a trailer park on Carolina Road in Suffolk Saturday.

Police say that the experimental aircraft went down near the Southside Trailer Park at 1073 Carolina Road around 1 p.m.

A preliminary State Police investigation has revealed the aircraft attempted to land several times before crashing in a field off Carolina Road.

Police say the pilot and the passenger of the plane died on impact.

The plane was not part of the Festival of Flight being held at the Suffolk Executive Airport this weekend, according to State Police. An initial report from a spokesperson from the City of Suffolk said that the plane had been part of the event.

State Police say they have alerted the FAA and the NTSB of the incident.
