There have been so many. On the track during the 2000 FCA event at Pikes Peak International Raceway. Passed by an F50 and then Formula 1 Ferrari. I was doing 140+ at the time. It doesn't get any better than this IMVHO.
I live in Spain, but purchased my 330 GTC telephonically at an auction in Switzerland in early December. To my horror, I rapidly discovered that with end-year work crunch, family holidays, and January business trips overseas it was absolutely impossible for me to go and get my car in Switzerland before mid-February! 10 weeks of agonic anticipation followed the auction. I spent HOURS after work staring at the pictures I had, enlarging little parts of them to understand the details, reading EVERYTHING that has ever been written on the 330 GTC, and dreaming, always dreaming. Then, in February, I flew to Switzerland, and the cab trip taking me to the shop where the car was waiting evoked the same feelings as when I realized, many many years ago, that I was finally going to get laid for the first time: overwhelming desire, anticipation, excitement, apprehension, and "what is it really going to be like?". Anyway, I picked up the car papers, got into the car, and just drove off to Spain... The French contryside was covered in Snow. The roads were deserted (I stayed off highways). Traffic was non-existant. A bright winter sun was shining. And I was alone for two days with my new Ferrari, who did not miss a beat over more than 1000 miles. I can't remember ever, in my adult life, being so happy and at peace. Julio
2 weeks ago driving up to Montreal for the Grand Prix. I took my 355 F1 spider up (with the top down) and raced my cousin with his modified 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera. We used up 1/2 tank of gas in 1 hour of driving no slower than 100 and up to 170. The weather was great, the roads through NH and VT was spectacular. Most fun I had with my pants on! Can't wait until next year to do it again. Theo
Back when I was 21, I had two girls with me, an Icelandic 21 year old and younger one riding in my Ferrari 328GTS with the top down. Their beautiful pale faces in the cold afternoon and night. The sound of the motor at speed along with their company going crazy to places where we were going to dream dreams and make visions real. And of course the day that I got to drive home my first brand new Ferrari, the F430.
Going to my B-day party at a restaurant, I was walking across the parking lot to get to the place when a large trailer opens its rear doors to see the car I've been wanting and it starts up and backs down the ramp then freinds and family come out of the restaurant screeming happy b-day and wife saying it's yours. I was speechless thinking how lucky I am that my wife would do such a thing, barely drove it home that night, it was nerve racking (first Ferrari )
My story happens on my graduation's day, when i was a school-leaver. Summertime, 35-6°C, more than 600 students in front of our grammar school, boys, girls, teachers, everybody. My school mates never see the 348 GTB in reality, and most of them dont believe it before. After the graduation, we drove it very hard, more than an hour long (it was the sickest ride in my whole entire life). It was a memorable moment for me.
Years ago, at 24, I purchased a 365 Boxer in Milano with only 6000 Km. I spent a few days in Milano before taking the BB out of the showroom. One day some school boys stopped to look in the window. One boy came inside and looked in the BB. He was excited to see the speedometer registered to 330 Kmh and told his friends outside the window. I tell the boy that the car is mine. The boy said, "Sure, and my father is Nikki Lauda." Later, driving across Germany, I began to realize that the BB was much better than I expected. Test driving a BB just did not prepare me for the cross Europe experience. I once wrote a note to Enzo Ferrari, congratulating him for a 1-2 F1 finish and how I felt about his products. The day I recieved a note back from Enzo was a major highlight.
Two quick stories. The first was driving up to the gate at the Naval Base in San Diego in my white officer's uniform driving a red 328 GTS with the top off and saluting the guard just like Tom Selleck did in the pilot episode of the Magnum PI TV series. Priceless, as it was my first Ferrari and that was my favorite show as a teenager. The second was when I was driving the Boxer to work and noticed a large tour bus to my left. As the bus pulled along side, I noticed quite a few passengers taking pics and videos of the car (not me) with phones and cameras. It made me smile and feel very fortunate.
I recently read that Enzo used to answer all of the letters being written to him. A shame such an outstanding person is no longer with us ....(although he would be ... old nowadays)
One day my mom came up to me, just smiling from ear to ear. Now, some info on my mom. She is a first generation immigrant. Worked as a meet packer, now retired. Sacrificed everything to put her kids through school/grad school/etc. Lives in a modest condo, off her social security. Refuses to accept any help from us whatsoever (financially), though we do continuously offer. "It was my job to raise you kids, and I did the best I could..." Polish folks live vicariously... My mom commented that one her friends kids saw me in one of my cars... Her friend commented to her that I must be either a dentist or a doctor. My mom looked at her meagerly..."Well, he isn't a dentist..." My mom isn't materialistic in the least, but that made her day...
45 minutes after I picked her up for the 1st time... cruising down I-4 from Orlando to Tampa... then look in the rearview mirror to see red and blue lights on a motorcyle... oh wait that was the worst experience- but Mark Gold and the Ticket Clinic fixed it all!
My 348 is my first Ferrari and I've only had it six months, so every drive of it is extra special. But there are three particular occasions that stand out: 1. The drive back home after buying it. Just sitting in it before driving off, knowing, after all the years of waiting, I finally had that dream fulfilled. I wasn't just driving home in *a* Ferrari, I was driving home in *my* Ferrari. And even though it was raining it felt like the sunniest day since the dawn of time 2. I'd had the car for a good few months and was beginning to learn it's characteristics and becoming confident in chucking it about a bit. At the time my wife was learning to ride a motorbike and we had to take it up to the dealers for its first service. One of my wife's friends in a bike instructor and offered to follow her up on her bike to give her some advice, with me following in the 348. After dropping the bike at the dealers we decided to go for a little drive around the back roads, me leading and my wife's friend and my wife riding pillion following. The bike dealership is located in the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District near to some of the best driving roads in England (lucky me! ) On that day I was completely 'in the zone' and at one with the car and the bike had a damned hard time keeping up 3. Attending my first Ferrari Owner's Club meet at the 60th birthday celebration at the Silverstone circuit. Just seeing row upon row of red cars. And my first drive on a proper race track in a Ferrari surrounded by others from the entire length of Ferrari's history - doesn't get much better than that!
Back in August 2006, after only 2 years of marriage, my wife gave me the "I want to be independent" speech and took off .. 2 months later, the opportunity to purchase a 1994 Ferrari 512TR came along and well.. why not . And this is me driving it home caught on camera from some guy on the net http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqCm7PnO0Fs Smiling ear to ear ever since
yup...that is true, i was saving up to buy a house, planning to have kids..etc.. if i didn't get married in the first place, i would have been driving an F40...lol

with my wife [at the time engaged] in our first Ferrari ['96 355GTS] top off, on a lightly foggy day with the sun burning through driving down the highway 1 Big Sur Coast....not a car in sight, lots of beautiful views, fresh, crisp salt sea air, great company, great driving.....great memories. Although I'm not much of a convertible advocate - the experience would not have been the same in a hard-top.
