I read recently on the Ferrari NA website that you can apply an extended warranty to any vehicle up to 8 years old...

Can this warranty be applied retroactively or must it be purchased while the existing warranty is in tact?

    Thanks...Thinking about a 360 spider.

I'd check with dealers. If it can be done I think it's a good idea.

Called Miller, no one answered the service phone. Then again, it's probably a sales matter. Thanks, I'll try again.

I'll look for the link on the Ferrari NA website...

I am covered by the extended warranty.

I was told by my dealer that once the warranty has run out, that’s it. So there could be no interruption in the coverage. Also, you can’t miss one oil change increment (1 yr or 3000 miles) by being 1 mile over or 1 day late. Same with the major services.

It’s also very expensive. Firstly I think mine is about 2K. Also, ever year you have to have to reapply by having a compression test and inspection done which is about $800-$900 if I remember correctly.

Also, it’s not a full warranty. As the cars ages, the coverage gets less and less. Right now I have the "Power Cube" warranty which basically just covers the power train. (motor and transmission).

So my total cost is about $2500-$3000 per year. Is it worth it? Piece of mind is a wonderful thing, but I don’t track my car or drive it hard. I really don’t know what I am going to do next year. We will see…

If your car is applies for the warranty and you want me to copy and fax you the brochure with the details, PM me. I’d be happy to help!

I think so far it's only for "Certified Used Cars" sold through Authorised Dealers but there was a rumor it would be extended to other cars.

Please report what they tell you.

It has to be always serviced by Authorized Dealers, but not sold and purchased through such. Speaking from personal experience of course...

In my case, my car was traded in to a Auth Dealer and they sold it to the idepen. dealer from which I bought it the next day. I didn't know that there was any kind of exception in my case. The dealer that extended the warranty has always serviced it and knows the car well. So its interesting that they overlooked that provision in my case.

OK...in reading that whole brochure, there are two options for cars out of warranty:

Power warranty, which can be applied to vehicles up to six years from the date of purchase and covers everything except wear and tear items. Covers engine, transmission, steering, suspension, etc. But not corrosion, clutch, brakes, etc. That must be what you have, enzo.

Then there's the Power Train which can be applied to vehicles between the ages of 7 and 9 years. Can be purchased any time after the expiration of the original limited warranty for one year but it is renewable every year thereafter. It covers the engine and gearbox.

This is awesome. I'm surprised more people don't take advantage of this. I called Ferrari of Central NJ and the representative I spoke to didn't have any information on this, so I assume it must not be widely used...

If you want a Ferrari but don't want a catastrophic failure at your expense, this is the way to go!!!

All 355s (which ARE, well... were eligible) for the extended warranty program would have had their Valve Guides and Manifolds covered under warranty. Original owners and guys who bought afterwards, never drove them enough to get to the problem.

Most people didn't want to spend the 4-6K on a yearly warranty though for a car that they barely drove. Average 355 major with guides seems to be in the 18-25K range... Hmmm... The math...

Just one manifold at retail price would have paid for the extension.

If a car has been regularly serviced by a dealer (read: Up to date on the Factory Scheduled Services) all that is necessary for a warranty extension is a Compression and Leakdown Test + your choice of coverage.

If a vehicle has been outside of the dealer network, a '101 Inspection' must be performed as well as the due Factory Scheduled Service + whatever the 101 recommends. This puts the car back "into network" and can attach the 'Certified Pre-Owned' to the car.

I've spent a lot of time reading and asking about this stuff with my local dealer while I am rebuilding my accounts.

I agree with Napolis. It's a good idea when offered.

is this for the first purchase? or subsequent to your acquisition?

I assume Tubi would apply, but if no one knew and you removed it, you could obtain coverage?
Radio upgrades etc. shouldn't be applicable, should they?

    thanks, rik

So I guess what I was told was wrong. According to several here, a car can be renewed for coverage even after it has run out. I was mislead if that is true. I just hope it was not intentional. When asking the service manager, I left no room for any misinterpretation. I pinned him down every which way. Not wanting to errantly discontinue any future opportunity was one of the reasons for buying it when I already had a 5K bill to fix a headlight electrical issue (which the warranty did not cover). Ah,the joys of Ferrari ownership!

Sorry if any of my information was incorrect.

Powertrain is $2,500. If you've had a good car then it's probably better to just wait until something comes up and forget it. Under Federal laws the cats and manifolds are covered anyway for 7 years, 100K(?) so that part's not a problem. Even if you intend to sell the car the Powertrain could be thrown in later if someone wants it.

If I was buying a car from an authorized dealer I would consider purchasing one, but to take your can in and have it inspected, do the repairs, plus the current major. They will come up with a laundry list a mile long with big bucks I am sure.

You were partially correct. One of the coverages, the extended limited warranty which can be extended for the fourth year and provisionally, the fifth year, is only applicable during the original limited warranty.

If there is a '99 355 (don't know if any were made for MY '99) and it has less than 56k miles, then technically it would be eligible for the powertrain warranty as far as I can tell.
