Ferrari LI is now offering extension of comprehensive factory warranty for years 6&7 for $10,800 on my 2018 488 spider. Do you guys recommend taking this warranty, only taking the major parts warranty which is $4,500 for an additional year or letting the warranty expire? Summer driving only 1-2000 miles per year.

    Thx for the help!! [emoji41][emoji41][emoji41]

When I bought my 2011 458 Italia, I was offered a two year powertrain warranty for $5000 CDN. I went ahead with that as I had heard stories about the DCT transmission and failures.

On the other hand, I am now at 52,000 km (between myself and the previous owner) with no issues. I have the service records and there are no recorded issues.

I have put on 16,000 km of the total and have not had an issue in the two years I have owned the car.

I think regular fluid changes and regular driving help to mitigate the service risks.

But, it all depends on what your risk level is. So, bottom line, would I extend my warranty if offered - answer would be no.

1 turbo is $13,426 (https://www.scuderiacarparts.com/part/266935/ferrari/329261/rh-turbocharger.html ) plus labor. Probably more at the dealer. There have been turbo failures but not as blow out of proportion as some will make you believe on car forums.

It's a gamble... are you financially set enough to self insure and pay out of pocket for anything that goes wrong...say above $15k? If your turbo fails will you be lucky enough that it's just a turbo replacement and that the engine did not ingest and broken pieces?

The transmission in these cars seems good and not much else goes wrong. For $10,800 for myself I am more inclined to possibly buy the warranty. I will need to make this same decision in September this year and I am on the fence on what to do.

I heard any fluid leaks; whether from turbos, engine, trans, not included with the Power Warranty. Just read the fine print for the warranty.

Maybe others have personal experience of fluid leaks are included with the Power Warranty.

It makes sense, otherwise anyone would come at them with any inking of ooozing at a gasket site or complain when it might not be warranted. NOW, if you get something that is leaking like a siev, certainly Ferrari would look to cover that, if applicable. I have had no experiences with those leaks other than from my 50 year old muscle cars...those were leak "resistant", not leak "proof"....either way...as a owner, deal with it.

If given the opportunity, I would personally purchase the warranty extension for as long as possible.
It literally extends the factory warranty for the additional term, which covers pretty much everything with the exception to wear items or consumables.
( think dash leather, soft touch becoming sticky, any fluid leak, electronic snafu… covered )

Power15 covers Turbo failure and head gasket failure
( both of which happen )

p.s. Oil leaks are a real thing w the TTV8 :wink

I was in this positon in 2023 for a 2018 488 GTB; at the time i decided to take the full warranty (year 6+7) and it costed about 10,000 USD. And during these two years nothing happend as the 4+5 nothing happend (which i also paid around 10,000 USD). My car milage is 46K KM and dealer is offering me 8th year full warranty and it costs about 7100 USD. Not sure if i want to pay this amount for one year extended warranty?
I still have two weeks to decide :)

I'm in the same boat. I've decided against the warranty. I'm going to self insure.

How late after your initial warranty expires can you get an extended warranty? Mine is a 2018 with less than 4K miles.

I don’t think there is a time limit as long as it within 15 years of registration (at least here in the UK). Your car would have to have an initial inspection by a main dealer. Cost for inspection and 12 months NewPower15 warranty here is c£4000. If you have no claims during the year and want a second year to follow straight on there is a 30% discount for the second year.
