    Hello,

Did anyone put any of that helicopter clear tape to protect the fog lights on their 348? I'm thinking of doing so to protect the expensive light.

Additionally, do you use anything to lubricate the rubber "gaskets" that touch the passenger/driver door glass? I was thinking of a smidge of WD40, but wondering if the stuff
is not perfect for the rubber trim.

Thank you. Just curious, simple couple questions.

I'm curious if anyone has found precut protector film for the fog lights on a 348. I was surprised Xpel doesn't show it, but maybe it's part of their headlight protection kit. I keep meaning to contact them to find out. If not, and assuming I can't find any elsewhere, I'll just get some Xpel sheets and cut them myself. If you find a better/easier alternative please let us know.

As to the rubber weatherstripping, a great product designed specifically for that purpose is called Gummi Pfledge. It's available from quite a few vendors, as well as Amazon.

    Mike,

Right. I just want to lubricate the weather strip stuff to clean it and make the glass go up/down easier. I usually go with some stuff from Chemical Guys on rubber stuff, but for this purpose I thought I'd ask.

I've just had my 348 foglights covered with ventureshield and putting together a kit for other parts on the car.

Will post pics and info on another thread later today.

I've used a simple paste wax before and it made the surface of the glass smooth. FYI, I've only tried this on the exterior side only.

I use dot 5 pure silicone brake fluid on a rag it really dresses rubber nice. Apparently its an old biker trick for rubber and plastic parts. Wd40 in my experience looks good initially and then dries out quick.

For armor all type products , they look nice but tend to fade quick.

Turtle wax ice liquid also dresses up seals nice. I have them all if you wish to try.

interesting. Can the silicone based dot-5 end up "shrinking" the rubber over time? I've always been told to stray away from products like Armor All and other silicone based "conditioners." Also, not sure if I'd use WD40 as it is not technically a lubricant, but actually a solvent.

I'm kind of wanting to try the dot-5 though...

I have used a number of items and find this also to be the best. It is available at BMW dealers as well. Very good rubber lubricant.

Xpel makes a pre-cut kit for 348 fog lights, I purchased a set years ago directly from them:

Did mine in yellow with 4mil sheets

On vinyl or plastic I use
    303 Aerospace Protectant
Stay away from armoral it breaks down the rubber

303 is the only thing that works on my spa cover here in the SoCal sun.

Leatherique supposedly works well to preserve rubber. I put some on my gaskets last time I conditioned the interior of my car, certainly didn't hurt anything.

Aerospace 303 is great. I use it on many things like rubber, wheels, dash. Non sticky and gives a nice pro look. I want to lube the seals a bit, clean ... I might check out the Gummy product Mike recommended. Found it on Amazon for $10.

Cool on the fog protectors. Thanks for the tip.

For fog light protective film, I went with LaminX. I used the yellow. It went on easily and looks good.

The precut lens covers use a film that is fairly thin but they tell me it works well for the service. They have thicker bulk product but I think it might be too stiff and would struggle staying fixed given the curve of the fog light lens.

    Cheers

Did mine years ago. Made a template - I'm sure I can find it somewhere - bought the material from a BMW parts retailer on line and did the whole thing in an hour or so.

+1 ...... I saw the finiished work on these and the thick pliable plastic used, looks like a factory made solution .... :)
