Hi Guys, I'm in need of some help. My passenger door's external door pull has been swinging out more and more recently. But because it was the passenger side, I didn't worry too much about it...until now. I swung the handle and it went further than usual and then I felt something "give" and all resistance in the handle was gone. I haven't had time to pull the door panel to investigate yet. Thought I'd see if some one can provide me with a mental picture of what I might be getting into before I start. Is there a cable that might have snapped? Or come off? I found the thread about early dino door linkages but it mentioned the handle was stuck. Sounded a little different to my case. Also tried to look through dinorestoration.com photos but couldn't get into that site. There are also some photos in the dino restoration #4946 thread on page 9 but again, it didn't show clearly how that mechanism works. Also another observation, if you are not using your car for awhile, it might be a good idea to crack open the windows so that the glass is not touching the rubber weather seal. At least on the GTS model. The other day, opening the passenger door after the car had sat for about a week, the rubber seal was doing a great job of keeping the door closed. I was only able to open the door about 1/2 inch. I then had to forcibly "tear" the glass away from the rubber seal. Tearing little chunks of the rubber as it stayed stuck to the glass. My rubber seals are probably the original seals so it's time to replace them.
I was able to get into dinorestoration.com thanks to this forum. And I found this picture. And it does speak a thousand words. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yup, It's a simple fix. The system actually seems designed to allow for someone pulling on the locked handle and not breaking it. Guys with Daytonas suffer the same fate. Too bad they didn't give the same guy the job of designing the vent window latches back in the day. D
