External Rear View Mirror paint issues

The drivers side external rear view mirror on my 612 OTO has developed a paint issue on the base area. Has anybody else had an issue like this? Any ideas what the material is? I think it is some sort of composite but the paint flaking looks like aluminium oxidation.

No, I've never seen that. It is really ugly. Did it happen all at once, or has it been slowly expanding? I don't know if that's aluminum like the body panels or if it is some type of plastic.

I know there was a thread here about some type of oxidation on that same side door panel right at the top edge of the door.

 

It started with a bit of bubbling and then went to the state is in now over a period of about a year.

 

Yes, that sounds just like the oxidation problem some owners experienced with their door.

 

i have a mobile paint guy coming over in the next week so will report back.

 

Can anyone help with a paint code or any further detail on the black paint on the wing mirror base please? Many thanks in advance.
