Silly question I know, but I'm curious about the vents added to the center of the hood for the QV's. Did the way the air flows through the radiator get redesigned, or was it just a stylistic change? Would a solid hood installed on a QV car cause cooling problems?

try this test next time you drive your car on a warm day.....lift the front hood....place your hand in the wheel well around the booster ,batt, m/cyl and chek the temp then lift the carpet in the cab next to the pedals chek the floor she gets very warm around there hence the hood grill...... i'm trying to get hold of one to fit to my car....... all that heat coming into the cab some days a feel like a oven ready chicken sitting in that car

It was just a design improvement for cooling for the QV.
Non vent/louvers will also work just fine but QV style is better.

always wondered why the GT4 had them, and the GTB / GTS did not until the QV.

pull the al. cover off the underside behind the radiator and have a sheet metal shop replicate and put louvers into that piece on the bottom.

It will act similar to the hood vents and allow a lot more hot air out of the front and keep the old look intact.

On my 78 308 euro carb car, I had the body shop cut a hole in my front bonnet for the vent – since the QV bonnet does not fit on the carby cars. The vent from the factory was $1200 alone.

    Why won't they fit?

I have a hood from a carbed car without the vents that I was going to swap on my QV (I like the 2V look without the vents and without the rear spoiler). It's painted and ready to go.

My theory is the pit for the spare tire required widening to fit the 16" wheel.

Incidently, when I refitted new foam on the bonnet it made a big difference on my car's cooling. There are two primary foam pieces, one atop the radiator to prevent air flowing over top the radiator. Second piece routes air flow from the radiator to the sides, preventing hot air from going into the footwell and generally getting lost. The QV routes the air as quickly out from the radiator as it came in.

I did the new foam thing too but it made no difference for me. My winter project is a Griffin radiator and new aftermarket fans. That should put my cooling issues to bed forever.

the QV hood dont fit the carb cars because the mounting holes to the hinges dont line up at all.

Dr. T G, please take pics of the new rad and fans, that's what I want to do as well. I want my engine temp to stay below 200F in the city.
