ten bucks for a key from a good key shop - they do not have a chip - fobs need cloning - which do you mean ?

As Jimmie says, the key itself is easy... it's the fob that's the hard bit.

No point in going through the options and details with you until we know which part it is that you want, key / fob or both.

If the fob is required, your first step is to take a look in your paperwork and see if you have the security system pin code.

PM Gobble. He cloned a FOB for me a few weeks ago. Works perfect!

I decided that I couldn't live with the cloned option so I went the full official route through my local Ferrari dealer.

$1700 later I now have 2 working keys and 3 working fobs (though sadly the master fobs are now also black, they just have a "master" label on the back)

As Taz mentions, whatever you do it will cost you something but whatever it costs you will be cheaper than if you lose the fob and have to start from nothing!!!

Quick question - do you still use the same keys? I have 1 key and 1 black fob, so the same problem as you. I have a nice Enzo style blank key I didn't have cut yet...should I wait for that?

Keys and fobs are two separate things which operate two separate systems and can therefore be operated on at two separate times in two separate places

If I had one key and one fob I'd take the ten buck route today and talk to Gobble about cloning the fob over a period when bad weather or vacation means the car won't get used for about a week

The physical key is the same, the fobs are different.... the kit from Ferrari comes with 3 new fobs and a new PIN code.

I'm hoping to get my original remote back from them as well as I'd like to try a little project of disasembling the fob and re-building it into an actual California remote key.... I see no reason why that shouldn't be doable, just a little complicated.

If you don't want the hassle of the cloned fob (it does not store the rolling code) and you still have your red fob (you must have one fob but you didn't say which one) then send it to the Aussie guys and they will send you three new fobs and the PIN for much less than Ferrari charges (around $1200).

Alan- The cloned fobs have exactly the same set of rolling codes as the original fobs. No difference in function between an original and a clone. The problem is if you use one of a cloned pair, the rolling code advances and the other fob gets behind in the rolling code sequence. Not a problem with original sets of fobs, all of which have separate IDs memorized by the Alarm ECU.

I guess I worded it wrong -- yes if you don't use it then the code gets behind. I also failed to let the OP know that he needs the red fob and the original PIN to be able to take advantage of their service. If not then he would have to send them his immobilizer module so they could retrieve the PIN.
I guess if he doesn't care too much about having all the original kit then a cloned fob would be fine as his existing fob would read the rolling code from the module if he ever needed to use it.

Alan- They can also pull the PIN from the red fob, something Eric and I have not been able to figure out.

They are very clever -- I'm sure Eric355 could figure it out if he put his mind to it. I am thinking of sending them my red fob and $699 to retrieve my PIN. My car's accessories would then be complete. I'm glad I didn't pay my dealer $500 to get my PIN from Maranello.
