No. The idea that a car company (not to mention one that established racing heritage) can put all of their efforts to making a car as fast as they can possibly make it and it is not accepted by any racing series in the world is what's wrong.

It's not and never has been a racing series. They do timed laps and all you really get it bragging rights...There are some seriously quick drivers in the ''XX'' series, and some average.

The people that buy into the XX cars are wealthy enough to race in FIA WEC, ELMS or whatever comes to mind that allows them with their specific license to race in, so if they wanted to race in that they would've. The reason they buy into the XX series is different for all, some do it because they want to improve their own driving with a lot of 1on1 coaching (perhaps with the possibility to start racing), some because they just want to drive fast and some do it because of the exclusivity.

Well done to Ferrari to have gotten at least 70 people willing to pay well over a million to buy into it.

I get where you're coming from...the cars aren't allowed to race anywhere so to me it doesn't appeal much. That said, if I was wealthy enough and already be racing in ELMS or FIAWEC or whatever, and the opportunity came knocking on the door to buy one of them to play around with I probably would.

Anybody know if this is a raw carbon lacquered, or is this painted black, as it looks metallic/pearlescent and more grey than black,

If it is paint and it is the only black available, I don't think it will have the stealth look of the solid black enzo.

Apologies if this is already discussed.

Maybe its not the extreme XX, but the "compensation LaFerrari" that was mentioned for the customers who missed out on LaFerrari. Why, you might ask? Because the exhaust note isn't the same banshee scream that an FXX model would have . VERY similar to the LaF exhaust note.

It's really a shame that there's nowhere for cars like this to race anymore. I wonder if we'll ever see a V12 racecar again? Or was the MC12 the last of the species?

I met an XX driver recently and you can actually track the car anywhere you want. You can keep it at your house if you wish. They actually get a huge XX programme chest to keep at home that is filled with a gas container and all the tools they would need. Most opt to let Ferrari store their cars and just attend the Corse Cliente events, for obvious reasons (They have to pay to transport to the car to and from home. Shipping million dollar cars internationally tends to not be cheap). They also supply you with mechanics and engineers at those events and the drivers get to shmooze with each other.

Agreed. The more exclusive version isn't for those who "missed out". It's for the elite clients who already have a LaFerrari in their garage and are in Ferrari's back pocket. If a client wasn't offered a LaFerrari, they sure as hell won't be offered the LaFerrari XX or the LaFerrari Spyder.

You've missed the point. Unless you are racing against other drivers and/or manufacturers in a proper race (FIA sanctioned event for this level) you are just masturbating.

This is just Ferrari milking money from people with too much money. Would never have happened under Enzo.
    Pete
ps: why are Ferrari too scared to build a car to take on Audi and Porsche at Le Mans?

Hey, there are thousands of car guys all around the world tracking their cars just for the fun, what´s wrong with that? Personally I wouldn´t buy a XX car, but in case you didn´t know, you and me are poor so we can´t understand the logic of the car guys who already own EVERYTHING.

The "would never have happened under Enzo" comment is already worn out and you know it. Everything was OK for Enzo as long as it helped to pay the bills.

And finally, the Le Mans issue has been beaten to dead too. The big question is: who is gonna pay that? Because you can bet that it´s not cheap.

    I'm well aware...:)

To a certain point I agree! Like I said above, actual racing is what I'd spent my money on, unless I was so loaded that another million spent on a car I'd drive a handful times that buying one wouldn't matter.

Had Enzo the chance he most definitely would. In actual fact, that's why he started selling cars in the first place, to fund his race cars!
I wish they would. I think the embarrassment to be beaten in 2 top of the line racing series might be too much for Ferrari, lol. I know that Audi spends a stupid amount of money on their LMP1 programme each year. To compete with them Ferrari has to open their wallets too. I think Porsche did rather well in their return to LMP racing so maybe Ferrari will finally give in. I did see that recently they added carbon aero foils for the F12, perhaps the funds from that option will go into their big LMP programme pot? ;)

Pete, you must be joking with this statement. Ferrari was founded (the production company) on the idea of selling cars for "too much money" to people with "too much money". There is no 'cheap' Ferrari, there never has been a 'cheap' Ferrari or one that was 'good value' for the money, thus they cost 'too much' money. On paper Ferraris are way too expensive and always have been, there has never been a Ferrari that was good value for the money. Ferrari always milked extra cash out of his buyers.

True. I didn't explain myself well.

I meant Enzo would not have built a race car that he was not prepared to race against other marques with. He, if nothing else, was prepared to take on the world.

    Bas,
We can already see that Ferrari would have no problem raising funds for a LMP1 programme. If they asked, people with too much money would come running and companies to sponsor it. Heck they would be climbing all over each other. It is definitely not funds related now. Was back in the 70's but now Ferrari are just chicken.
    Pete
ps: Ferrari could sell labelled dog poo to if they wanted to. There are many with too much money or are so sold to the brand they will buy anything.

The XX program is a brilliant move by Ferrari. They have people paying to provide R&D telemetry that can be used in future road, racing, and XX cars.
