Hey all, about how long does it take to receive your EZ Pass device after you order one (ordered on-line)? Also, must one actually affix it to the windshield? I'd hate to stick those ugly velcro strips (no offense to anyone who has them) on my Fcar. Have any of you used it successfully by just keeping it in the door pocket or something and holding it up when passing through the toll, or does it slow you down too much?

(Tried searching the threads but didn't see much, sorry if I missed it.) Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have two assigned to my account. One for each car. Took about 2 weeks to get.
The mazda has it affixed to the windshield above the rear-view
The 308 I keep in that center console tray ahead of the shifter & hold it up to the window when needed.
This next part makes no sense, but if I don't hold it to the window with proper orientation, it won't read right & I won't see the message "Paid". It's RF, so that shouldn't happen, but it does. Go figure.

It is weird, I got a fine on the GSP ( Union toll booth) in the mail saying I went through w/o paying...eventhough all the other Toll booths I went through on the trip worked fine ( with me holding up the ezpass)...they sent me a picture of my rear of my car and the plate and I paid the fine...can't fight with them ..I have tried in the past and they either ignore you or threaten to "ban" you from ezpass for life. I don't know if it is because the car is so low or what..but after complaining I see that they were sued or something and that the batteries in the device can be faulty or something and they sent me and everyone else a "replacement device" which works better....I tend to hold it up high outside teh window or roof in the 308 gts rather than inthe front window since I think it is oo low or there is something in the window tinting that may block the ability to read the device...no biggie but the fine kinda wipes out any saving you would ever get from the stupid service but you need it to get throught the toll plazas quick... I don't know how the permanent front license plate devices would be mounted on a 308.

Mine came w/in 2 weeks when i ordered two of them about 3 years ago.

I switch cars very often in my career. I NEVER affix them to my windshield. I just hold it up when i go thru the toll lanes. Never had a problem. If you dont have an issue with misplacing things or losing things, Id recommend that.

EZPASS still thinks I drive a Mazda 6. Thats about 9 cars ago! I dont think they care as long as they get paid.

Its all about the benjamins, dog!

Pick up one of those little cradles with two suction cups attached. You can easily move it from car to car and when you want it off, it comes right off. Plus, no issue with trying to dig around in the center console, hold it in the right direction, worry about whether your hand is in the way, trying to shift and hold the E-ZPass at the same time, etc.

Most car washes have them, and auto parts stores like Pep Boys, Strauss, Auto Zone, etc.

Depending upon the car you either need a License plate mounted one, or the velcro kind. My dads BMW 7 series needs the plate mount due to the solar ray windshield. However on my car I use the velcro one, but I dont use the velcro. I bought the EZ -Clip which is a suction cup holder, it comes in black or white.

The car was I go to on Main Street and Booth Memorial in Flushing has them, I was consider getting one, but I don't go through tolls too often, and I hate having things stuck on the windshield whether it's velcro or not, so I didn't pick one up and just hold it up.

    Few things on this score:

    1. I much prefer this to the EZ Clip:

    http://www.tolltagclings.com/

It uses static cling to attach to your windshield, and then you velcro the EZPass directly to it. Looks much better and hides the EZPass better

    2. You can most certainly fight the system -- just send a letter saying "my tag wasn't read" and include payment for the toll (not the penalty) stating that you're a valid and active EZPass member. I've never had them deny one of those letters yet.

Well I dont know about GSP but on a trip home from PA I got on the Tpke in Carlisle PA. and it wouldnt take the EZ pass, had to take the ticket instead. So here we are driving about 150 miles back to the NJ Tpke, BSing and not paying attention so what do I do, I go right turu EZ pass. Of course it didnt take it because we had no "entry point" It snaps a photo of my car and I receive in the mail a 50.00 fine. I call them up, explain what happened and the girl on the phone says oh thats OK just send $5.00. I'm like,.....are you sure? She says yeah they just want the toll fee. OK. I send them $5.00 and never hear from them again. Glad I called.

Yep, on the Garden State, it won't read my EZ Pass either- twice (on both occasions visiting the Lambo dealer in Bergen Co) I got letters demanding that I pay a 25 cent toll and a 25. dollar processing penalty. Both times, they accepted just the toll payment, by filling out the portion of the form that gives them your EZPass info.

I just 'whip mine out' when needed. I don't like the Velcro either. :)

Mine's velcro'd, but I spray-painted the unit black so its less obvious.

If you don't have your EZ when you go through the toll, it should not be a penalty. As long as you are registered in the system, they manually charge you for the toll by verifying your license plate information - at least that is what happened to me the one time I didn't have mine. Pretty nice of them!

Like most have said you can get more then one if you have a few cars it dont cost any extra. If you would like to make it less noticable you can paint it black like someone here mentioned. For those who dont want to spend the extra money on getting a holder you can always ask them to send you more velcro strips and just go that route. Now that everyone has gotten on the EZ Pass when are we all going to get radios for runs.

If you really want to do this well, I have the solution. GDC had a VERY hardcore radio setup for our Dream Car Tour -- units are full mobile units (not handhelds) with real speakers that are 100% audible at high speeds (unlike the crappy talkabout handhelds that we've tried to use in the past). Power output is up to 60W (as opposed to 0.5W with the handhelds) and with a decent external antenna, range is 20+ miles. Units cost $170 each and antennas another $40 - $60 depending on how you set it up. But they work, and they work well.
