Okay guys, Read the article about F-1 in Time magazine this week. It re-iterates my comments about F-1 and Scumacher Again, not to knock the performance of Ferrari and Schumacher, the record proves their perfection but the sport has almost become a non event. There is also an article in the Times about trying to rescusitate( SP) the unlimited hydros too due to the "money boat" running away from the pack into retirement. The ALMS race last week was a barn burner.....well, a Corvette Burner anyway. A great race to watch.

Hey Bob, Lem here... Here is an fyi for you my friend.

Take a look at the above site.

Oh, and I don't exactly agree with F1 being a "non-event", not yet anyway. I still get up between 0430-0530 on F1 race weekends to watch pre-qual on Friday, to last haul on Sunday. For me... it is the "only" sport. That picture with Dale jr. brought back the old memories when a guy in a situation like that may have been seriously injured. With all the high-tech and super-tech saftey devices out there Death in F1 is now becomoing a "non-event" and that my friend is a good thing. Just look at Ralph's crash at Indy, man, ten years ago he would have been dead or paralyzed.

Nothing lasts forever, especially dominance in sports. Enjoy it while you can. Who knows Lamborghini might show up next year and clean up.:p

Rule changes in F1 (2.4 ltr. V8's) will mix things up a bit and might possibly give the other teams a chance, though not likely with Ferraris ability to make more horsepower. I expect to see 20 to 22k RPM shift points on those little engines. More of the same, different formula.
    Ho-hum.................

I feel that there will be a certain amount of complacency in F1 until the money from F1 sponsership, accessories and memorabilia starts to wane. That I don't see in the near future.

I will start watching Unlimited Hydros again now that Budweiser has pulled out. I think there is going to be some tough competition and exciting racing, at least however exciting whirring, whoosh boats can be.

I think a return to an all piston boat class (in addition to turbine) would revitalize the sport and reintroduce the attraction of the boats in the first place, THE SOUND. Screaming V12 sound. With all of the WWII Rolls Merlin, Griffon and Packards used up and the scarcity of Allison engines an alternative source of V12's would have to be found. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to tool up some spec type race engines out of other more plentiful designs, possibly using a diesel V12 block as a pattern for a lighter casting.

So my whole take on the deal? If it isn't interesting I don't watch it. I go hop in the 308 and say, "LETS DRIVE!"

I agree with you, Lem and Critter. I just like to see a level playing field and good exciting competition. With Ferrari putting up 450 million for their program and the next guy putting up 21 million, it ain't too difficult to predict a winner. Then put R.Schumacher in the mix for 74 Million a year.............
I don't watch races to see crashes and I was really worried that DE Jr. wasn't going to get out of his car in time. Saw enough of that kind of thing in the war. You're right too, Lem, that ten years ago that could have been fatal and thank God for nomex suits.

I have to agree with you Bob, as much as I am a Ferrari and F1 fan there really should be some checks and balances. I realize that $$$-flow is king in F1, as it is in most major sports. Toyota for instance has the biggest budget and the most people, something like 1000? Skill and bravery are indeed being replaced by sponsers and corprate bragging rights, all this at the risk of our sport itself...........
