'Scorpion 4' **possibly** sighted flying over Edwards AFB today (1-17-13). My source is very reliable with daily access to the base. I showed the individual an 8x10 print and they immediately identified what they saw as being a Nighthawk.

I won't tell if you won't tell. That video was the last I saw any activity. Thought it was interesting that they removed 0783 from the Blackbird Airpark to "preserve" it.

It's conceivable they keep a few of these in flying condition for tests. Maybe they use them to test against new radars, or may even test them with new RAM coatings? It would make sense since there are so few F-22s they might not be able to dedicate any to that sort of thing.

Engines, landing gear, and other parts are off the shelf and plentiful. A good reason as any, to keep a few test airplanes floating around.

It's called getting old. Think about the airshows for the kids without military planes at all.

Yup, all my F-111s are on sticks or beer cans. F-4s all gone too since we used them all for targets. F-16A/Bs are now being used for flying targets.

The F-4 put on a good show at Little Rock in October and I'm pretty sure I have seen them flying through in the last couple months.

I'm amazed that, so far, sequestration has not put a stop to military airshows and open houses. Keep your fingers crossed.....

The Blue Angels and Thunderbirds are out of business starting April 1st.

I imagine 'open houses' and military airshows will follow suit.

There were a bunch that were cancelled right off. Commanders at all levels are battening down the budgetary hatches. Unless funded from some higher headquarters specifically for an air show no commander is gonna spend $ on a off station like that.

Air Combat Command on Facebook said that it was very likely open houses and airshows would be cancelled this year if they don't find a fix. I'm pretty sure that most of ACC was already told to stand down.

The Blue Angels' official website shows six cancelled shows (including Indy) but other events are still shown as scheduled, with no sign of "distress".

There was a long article about it in the early bird (dod news service thingy) that said a few shows were still gonna happen because of the way money is allocated but apart from that they are done until further notice.

Today the AF announced (following army and marines) that tuition assistance for the troops is ended.

Flying hours are seriously chopped, if you lived around here it would be very noticeable that the number of aircraft flying is greatly diminished.

I wonder if any military planes will be at the EAA? That would make for a seemingly open tarmack. Thunderbirds were scheduled to be there as well.

Most airshows have been cancelled in an effort to maximize the public impact of sequestration.
