PLAT video and Island video with LSO screaming "POWER, POWER. POWER.....WAVE OFF, WAVE OFF....BURNER, BURNER, BURNER.... I bet DoD is having a field day with this "new" video leakage. Nimitz class carriers have a "shut-off" switch from the internet for incidents like this. click on the link https://www.reddit.com/r/aviation/comments/slqklp/leaked_video_not_mine_of_the_f35_crash_on_the/
Something I know that isn't always on the front of my mind when watching videos of carrier landings is all the support crew. They were out there soaking down the deck before the splash had even died down. Big team effort that deserves more visibility.
Several ground crew were injured from flying debris due to the impact of the crash. That was one hell of a wallop that airframe took and for it to remain intact shows the durability of the airframe.
incredible video, BUT, for over 200 years, "Loose lips sink ships" applied. For the last 20? Loose cell phone videos is the 'problem'. .
No. The admiral of the Navy sent out a letter regarding "leaked" videos AND has said that these are the signs of the times with everyone having cell phones and access to social media. I say to the Admiral " Are you freakin serious??" The Admiral to me sounds like one of Bidens "woke" yes men. I honestly don't know if any sanctions and or meetings will take place to secure these "leaked" videos from ever happening again.
If true, that's sad. Shame on the Admiral and shame on whoever got the vid on the streets. Do we all want to see this sort of this? Sure we do be we also want to be able to trust those serving our country. What's next? Leaking of a vid of plans to rescue (say) hostiages, etc?
Agreed. With regards to this leaked video and aircraft carriers in sensitive areas, I would implement a procedure where everyone on the carrier NOT carry there cell phones while on duty and have everyone sign a form regarding sensitive material that doesn't get leaked via social media. If caught, there will be putative damages and possible confiscation of said cell phone.
@PeterS What I don't get is with this specific aircraft and the F-18 super hornet. Both have an approach system called PLM (Precision Landing Mode). Once the pilot inputs the carrier's speed and "calls the ball" the system or software takes care of the rest making all the necessary attitude and adjustments to get the aircraft on the 3 5 degree glide slope and catch the #3 wire with efficiency. Like the plane can literally land itself basically. These aren't the days of the F14, F4, or A7 where a pilot makes 300 corrections in 18 seconds to get that plane on the deck. So why did this F35 slam the back end of the aircraft carrier with this PLM system???
A sailor a couple of years ago took a picture at his duty station in a subs engine room. There was no question it was just to show his wife where he worked and as I recall he got a DD and prison time. I guess it wasn't enough of a lesson for some. Then again it may have been an unvaccinated sailor who's a short timer anyway. I may be old fashioned but to me life was better without cell phones.
Two thoughts...... 1) That should have never happened with an F35 and I doubt the pilot will fly again after wrecking a $100m aircraft. 2) I'm not okay with "woke" commanders/admirals. These are war machines and it is not okay for sailors to create media to share with the world. Why do it at all? Just so a buddy can get hits on YouTube? How does a woke commander make a decision of what is okay to share and what is not?
In the Navy? No one. Admiral Robert Kelly as a Captain negligently ran Enterprise aground in SF Bay and was promoted to Admiral. He was ranking aviator at the Tail Hook convention scandal was recommended for forced retirement by SECNAV . Then went on to make 4 Star before retirement. Accountability is hardly what you'd call consistent.
That's crazy! So nobody downstream gets a good dressing down (i.e.: Those who personally trained the pilot, etc.)?
