When I start my car when it's cold it seems like it takes a few seconds (3-4) for the oil pressure gauge to register and for the red light to turn off. How long does it normally take for the oil to start moving? When I start the car when it is warm it seems like it is instantaneous but when it's cold it seems like there is a delay. Do I have a failing oil pump?

    Thanks.

When it's freezing cold, mine does too (takes 3 or 4 seconds for the oil gauge to wake up)
My car is in extremely good health. What you describe may be normal.

But please just ask your knowledgeable local Ferrari mechanic.
    As in, a real one...

When was the last oil change? 3-4 seconds isn't too long but the oil drain back valve in the filter could be leaking a bit causing the filter to lose it's oil when it sits for a while.

Mine jumps more or less straight away past the vertical 70 and stays about the next marker to the right of it. This engine is a freshly rebuilt engine with about 600 miles on it. However my old engine jumped more or less Past 70 straight away to.
What about trying another oil sender unit, or at least cleaning the terminals on yours. This is located below the oil filter, its that little round pot with two wires going to it. One wire is for the said dial, the other for the warning light.

I'm going to check the terminals before I go for a drive today. this problem started shortly before my alternator began to fail.. and I recently rebuild the alternator. all of my other alternator symptoms went away after the rebuild except for the delay on cold starts. I can hear when the oil is released because the sound of the engine changes quite a bit. Coincidentally I now have a fresh oil leak on the main oil line which was just replaced by Ferrari...they said they noticed a leak... so I told them to go ahead and change it. Now the leak is back.

Is it the oil pipe from the oil tank to the side of the engine block by any chance?

Yes, i thought so. There may lay your problem mate. I only did one a few days ago. I even posted about it. A friend of mine had a double oil leak that i fixed for him at the joint of the oil pipe with the engine and also the oil pan. However i also discoverd the oil pipe was leaking further up at the swivel joint. So i sourced another and replaced it. I mentioned about it here, but not about the oil pipe leak. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/442457-oil-banjo-fitting-2.html#post143253979
Oil was p1551ng out of it and that was causing oil loss and there for his oil pressure was also very low.
Now its all done and perfect again.
Are you getting any oil residue on your rear bumper after a hard drive? If so its because the oil will be blown under the car. I am suprised you have not spotted oil drops on the floor.

Good info, Dino. This should be on the list of parts to replace during a major.

oh yes I have spots on the garage floor for the last week now. Where the parts expensive? I paid through the nose to get that oil line replaced and I know that ferrari will fix it for free but I am even more sure that they will find more parts to add that I will have to pay for. That's just the way things go in the Ferrari garage. The banjo part for example. ..pricey?

We source a good used hose mate, at about £100. New there like £500+
Get it changed mate if it's leaking, that's your problem.
