Dear F-40 Comrades, The F-40 has a total of four retaining studs that hold the Bonnet/Hood and Rear Engine Cover in place. Those on my car, as with many others have become just a little corroded. Accordingly, I should like to remove them and have them replated. However, the Allen screws that retain them appear to be impossible to remove - is there a special technique of which I am unaware that should be applied? I thank you in anticipation of your thoughts in this regard. With kind regards, 512 Tea Are
Impossible to remove due to corrosion? If so some penetrating fluid used liberally and re-applied and soaked in, should loosen them up.
Dear Comrade joe sackey, But do you have any idea, please, how they should be removed? The countersunk retaining screws appear to have a hexagonal aperture for inserting an Allen key. The aperture is relatively small for the size of screw as of ocurse is the corresponding Allen key. I have wrought as much pressure upon the key as I dare and it seems very solidly retained to the extent that the key will turn in the aperture should I apply further pressure. Is there something here that I should be doing that I am presently wholly unaware? I do realise that lubrication may help - but is it just a case of lubrication? All good wishes. With kind regards, 512 Tea Are
I think that the proximity to the inside wheel well has afforded a bit of corrosion the opportunity to cause the aforementioned screws to seize. Pehaps some pics will clarify? To be on the safe side, I would have the techs at Ferrari handle the problem if you fear that you are about to inflict damage upon your flawless F40. Joe www.joesackey.com
The way you carry on about 512 Tea Are being a pensioner one could be forgiven for thinking that YOU are so young and so strong... is that the case? Pray tell us... Joe www.joesackey.com
I suspect that a properly sized Allen socket and the careful application of an impact gun (after the penetrating oil has had some time to work) will do the trick. Of course don't forget: "righty tighty, lefty loosey" ;^)
It would be my pleasure to assist Jas if any additional muscle is needed. I doubt it would be necessary with his 11 yrs of mixed martial arts training however.
Anytime. However I beleive the idea was borne, suggested and promoted by a certain 512 Tea Are. Surely by now you have caught on to his sarcastic repose? BTW, the man started a thread here seeking maintenance assistance with his F40. As usual, Rough MD and yourself have little to conribute that is actally of some viable USE to an F40 owner in need of assistance. Please feel free to make an attempt at proving me wrong.... Joe www.joesackey.com
............Graham, lots of WD40 and leave it to sink in for a day. You should be able to easily unscrew them afterwards.
Dear Comrade SSNISTR, Yes. One of my very good friends is an Airbus Pilot for Virgin he generally flies the long hauls from Heathrow down to Australia plus other far distant destinations. However, he does on occasions fly into New York and which, as an aside, I understand to be poorly lit with runways scarcely large enough for the Airbus. The question is, how far are you from New York With kind regards, 512 Tea Are
Dear Comrade carsinxs, Yes, okay, you can come over Business Class - how far are you form New York With kind regards, 512 Tea Are
I see you had to think about that one for a while as your typical immediate response was not forthcoming. Bold as it may be since we've all seen the dystrophic stature. You see, sarcasim is not exclusive. As to the sarcastic one's dilemma, a good soaking with a penetrating oil, WD40 as above or "breakaway". Neither available, ask the local hardware attendant for their rec. Make sure it won't harm the paint. Reapplication several hours after the 1st time it was put on. Let soak for a day or two as previously suggested. Then, check the size allen wrench needed, go buy a new quality one so it has no slightly rounded edges that may "appear" OK from the likely used garage set. We don't want stripped heads. Put the short end of the wrench in, tap lightly with a hammer to seat the wrench and apply even, increasing pressure until the badboy breaks loose. Repeat. Oh, and business class is fine 512TR.
Dear Comrade joe sackey, RufMD is a well worn forty eight. For myself, I am in superb condition and will convey to you an image of myself within the blue F-40 LM Pilot thus to wrest any anxieties that the RufMD may have. My understanding is that he has an urgent desire/need for a mission as emissary for the Ferrarichat.com in his assumed role as my personal physician and now seeking the merest hint of an opportunity of flying into his erstwhile homeland of England for Christamstime. All good wishes. With kind regards, 512 Tea Are
I share your frustration on screws that won't budge. I read the thread in the hope that somebody might offer something useful. WD40, impact wrench, etc are at least on topic. Would it help after the WD40 has had a chance to work to tap the Allen key with a hammer? If you can lift the front and rear shells your biceps are more than a match for allen screws
Ahhh, your age estimations once again betray the effects of age induced dementia....guess again old boy ! I regret to inform you I cannot accept the role of your personal physician. One must understand ones own limitations, and my geriatric and psychiatric background is limited. Since my age is a concern of you both, I will go on record and admit to being a very young 40 years of age...life begins at 40, no ? (***As an aside, the " " means its meant in jest Joe...go back and look at the original post and see if you can find it***)
Dear Comrde DM18, I believe that Carsinxs has come up with the difinitive remedy. Accordlingly, I am to mould a product that we have here called 'Blu-tac' into a circle and thence from will fill the little pool thus formed with WD40, and leave it to penetrate for a few days. I shall then follow the further advice that Carsinxs has extrapolated. All good wishes from England. With kind regards, 512 Tea Are
Dear Comrade RufMD, Yes, I had originally presumed you to be forty. But I had no wish to offend you and therefore conveyed a little further maturity to your tender years. I have done the same for Joe Sackey who is only twenty eight. I have made him forty as I do not wish either of you to think that I believe you to be immature and feel a moral obligation to treat you both with similar affection All good wishes from England where it is presently raining stair-rods. With kind regards, 512 Tea Are
Good wishes to you too Graham....have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year ! All the best to you and your family.
