    Dear American Comrades,

Can you inform me, please, the situation with regard to F-40 fuel tanks.
My understanding is that the U.S. motor cars have aluminium tanks. Am I to presume from this that it is therefore unnecessary to change them every ten years as is the case with the Euro specification cars?

    Thank you.

    With kind regards

Alex, can you please explain to me how the tank works? Why does it have a filler door on each side? Is it a single tank or two tanks? I'm sure it it's the same as my Dad's Ford van. :)

The two fillers feed into a common tank AFAIK. There is only one fuel gauge.

The Euro tanks are a rubber compound and the F50s, even US versions, use a similar system.

    Dear Comrades,

    Thank you for your replies.

However, and for the sake of clarity and completeness may I be informed, please, precisely whether the US F-40's have an aluminum fuel tank that does not require changing every ten years?

I confirm that the English (UK) F-40's have two polythene tanks that require changing every ten years and the cost of which exceeds $24,000 (Twenty four thousand dollars).

I thank you in anticipation of your considered response.

    With kind regards,

    My understanding is different...

two tanks, one in front of each rear wheel. separate fuel pump in each tank. fuel tanks connected by hose to equalize level between the two tanks.

That's interesting and I was unaware that there are two separate fuel tanks.
I guess that's why one gauge is sufficient. The hose effectively creates one tank for the purposes of measuring how much fuel you have

Dear English Comrade Commissar Tony M8,

Another wonderful piece of deduction on your part. However, no one has yet answered the query with regard to F-40 fuel tanks - are they aluminum and therefore do not require changing every ten years. Conversely, are they plastic/rubber/pvc and require changing every ten years?

I confirm that the English (UK) motor cars have two separate tanks each with their own fuel filler. There is a balancing pipe between the two tanks that enable the fuel tank sensor to convey the fuel content of both tanks to the dashboard fuel guage.

My car, and at this very moment is within the transporter en route for this vicinage with its arrival imminent - replete with new tanks, discs (rotors) cam shaft oil seals, cam cover seals, new cam belts and auxilary belts - full service and god knows what else and is going straight onto Ebay thus to assuage the expenditure and recoup some of the losses . . . . . . . . . I do not know how to do the smiley things so you will just have to imagine a row of twenty thumbs up and a hundred smileys!

If it's not raining in the morning I shall be in it at first light . . . . . . more smileys and thumbs up!

AFAIK, all US cars have alumnium tanks, all Euro ones rubber so your assumption's correct. But i'm no expert....

    Dear English Comrade Commissar Tony,

It's interesting that this is seemingly not generally acknowledged within the F-40 aficionado domain. Perhaps it may well be that the U.S. aluminium tanks cannot be retro-fitted to the English (UK) cars? Does anyone have any idea's on this - a little late for me however as the car returned this evening replete with its new plastic/pvc-whatever tanks.

    With kind regards,

    Comrade

After much consideration, deliberation and parsing of the foregoing replies, it would appear to the naked eye that your original question regarding the material of which US version F40 fuel tanks are made, was answered with clarity and quite unequivocally at least two times by different people. One would imagine that someone as erudite as you appear to be, would have discerned this fact by now. If not, I wish you the best of luck in your ongoing quest for enlightenment.

    Dear American Comrade 410SA,

In England we speak so as not to offend and listen so as not to be offended.

Accordingly, I thank you most graciously for your kindly considered comments; rhetorical though they may well be.

The two fuel tanks on the European F40s are aluminum tanks with rubber fuel bladders inside. The rubber bladders are what are required to be replaced in ten years. It may or may not be necessary to remove the two aluminum tanks for replacement of the fuel bladders.

    Dear Comrade SSINSTR,

The car returned yesterday evening at a half past six o'clock. I now have a problem with a most peculiar noise. It is still very much in evidence when the engine is switched off and ignition on. I am presuming therefore that the noise may well be emanating from the fuel pump - any idea's on this would be very much appreciated. I have of course e-mailed the dealership that performed the work and await their response later today (it is presently fairly early in the morning in England)

With regard to your question on the cost of tanks: It has just had new tanks plus cam belts and god-knows-what else fitted - I shall go through the invoice later today and extrapolate the price of the tanks along with the labour cost in their fitment.

I would still very much like to know whether the American aluminum tanks will readily fit into an English (Uk) F-40.

I do not think, as has been stated, that the English (UK) F-40's have an aluminum tank with the rubber/pvc-whatever tanks inside. My understanding is that the rubber/pvc-whatever tanks are held within a cage that supports them.

    With kind regards,

    Dear Comrade Commissar Tony,

Thank you, I would very much appreciate that.

However, I suspect you will know which dealer the car has been with and will have some idea of the substantial expenditure that has accrued. However, I must of course allow them the opportunity to remedy matters. This notwithstanding, I also have a vibration that was not there before!

You may assume from this that I am just a little peeved at present. Heigh ho.
