Skizo, did you see the deal on the Enzo key??

Next time you see Dahr, ask if he pulled his from the wreck!

there was a question as to if the ebay auction of one was legit.

You going to see Classy Chassis in Reliant? VIP Party tonight 6-9PM

F40s are pretty reliable if you drive 'em. Fule cells are rubber and are crapped out by now if not replaced. HTH

The US cars do not have the rubber fuel cell which needs replacement every 10 years. Euro cars do.

F40s, when driven, seem to be very reliable. I have no fist hand ownership experience, I regret to say.

We had to redo George Foreman's cats when he let it sit too long, the stale gas somehow damaged the cat.

$4k or so...it's runnin' good now!

I see one down by Rice University all the time too.

I like F40s, I'd have one! Saw one at auction with some miles 18K go for about $260K, so they are coming down a little bit.

Where's that LOTTO ticket from last night????

It's basically a 308 engine with turbos. The realiability is pretty good & this set up makes it pretty easy to work on . The F50 is a much more complicated machine.

Second stage? F40s are two turbos of the same size and kick in at the same time... they are not sequential (aka P 959)

The F-4o is a reliable Ferrari. But just like any car if they sit things tend to happen. As long as you drive them and maintain them correctly they will be fine. It also depends on how you drive them. If you putz around like a grandpa you may have problems. I tend to think that All high performance motors like to be driven hard. I drive the piss out of my Z28 and with 143k miles it runs very strong. But obviously I don't go everywhere with my foot on the floor, I drive normal, but I take my car to track events very often. Same with the F-40, don't go everywhere always in the boost.

As far as a F-40LM, They were VERY FAST, for a while anyway. They were good in short races, but were not reliable enough for endurance racing such as Le Mans. But I would own one in a heartbeat! 700~750hp from a TT 2.9 V8???, ENOUGH SAID.

Speedy Speedy Speedy, sometimes I wonder about you. My dad, Dahr, Mr.Vallone and I had dinner tonight. They talked about business, and later on I asked Dahr if he kept his key. He had it mounted to his wall of his bedroon, with a pic of the Enzo next to it...its like losing a relative...like...it is.

The Turbo's are not the same size on a stock F40 and they do have a sequential effect. I would be more than happy to show you the difference.... I have them sitting in my Shop...

The LM turbo's are sized the same however....

    Well thanks, Mr Parr!

I thought I had made a mistake due to advancing age or something... the writer had said the effect had caused the tail to step out, IIRC.

    Thanks for speaking out!

Skizo, never mind...I know it's probably not the best thing for conversation.. I'm sure he regrets the misstep. That's a whole 'nother world, south of the bayou!! We'll leave Dahr alone.....

You and Tony Vallone.. now that's a mental image..what did you order??

We had a nice steak over the fire pit the other night, as the Burlington Northern Sante Fe rolled by........

I'm looking for Child Advocates kart race sponsors.... see what you can do, and we'll let you drive!

Reliability is very good when you have all the bugs worked out. I did many and many track events without even opening the hood. I just finished the Players Run and even if we had the LM loaded in the trailer for the long freeways run, I did 1500 miles in a week time !!!, no sweat...My buddy John did the all run and did 3200 miles. I have the car here and it just need a good service before going back on track in 2 weeks.
Maintenance is very simple, I do it myself but you have to have some mecanical skills to keep an eye on eveything.
I had TR and 400i, by far the LM is the easiest to service.

Sorry if this info has been posted, but I just ran across this thread.

The two F40 OEM turbos are exactly the same, not two different sizes, not sequential. They feed cross bank, the turbine blown by 1-4 exhaust has the impeller blowing the 5-8 bank.

Chris, what you may have is one original IHI, and one replacement IHI. There are at least three updates due to IHI changes, and the updated turbos do indeed have different operating characteristics. I'm sure that Ferrari determined the differences would not be perceived by an owner.

    Best regards,

    Rob Schermerhorn
