I was just imformed that my new 430 being finished now will have Goodyear run flats. Any experiences with them here? The first generation Goodyear run flats that I experienced first hand were on the Corvette ZR1 and the side walls were very stiff and the tires were not very responsive at that time.

After two blowouts caused by potholes, I changed my Bridgestones to Goodyears. I can't tell the difference in the ride. I have hit more potholes and I have a bubble in a sidewall, but no blowout. Also no Flatbed!!!

do these run flats need to be repaired if they get a nail in them?..or do you replace them like a normal tire (most times they are unusable if the puncture happens a medium to high speed because the sidewall is gone by then)?

Is the only advantage to run flats that you can drive home for ~50 kms or so?

    DJ,

I have posted this before, but here goes - I got them for my F430 spider - no regrets. I offset the additional weight with CF Brakes :). I do not have them on my F430 coupe. I have had earlier generation runflats and they were harsh - these are light years ahead. Performance and ride are pretty darn close - As between runflats and regular tires on the two cars, the slip angle is fairly linear on both and the ride quality is just fine on the run flats (not even a tad more "firm" than the regular ones but that could be attributable to them being on the Spider versus the coupe).

The idea of being either stranded or filling up what little cargo space I have with a spare was off putting - given how I use the spider, thus the reason I got them for the spider (air in a can is crap) - all things equal , I would get the runflats.

No flat bed or worse having to leave the car is the reasoning I needed to go with them. Did anybody pick the tire brand at order time?

On every order form that I've ever seen including the 3 that I've used had explicit tire brand (Pirelli, Michelin, Goodyear) options. For my new car I selected the Goodyear run flats with TPMS for the same reasons - extended range driving with little to no degradation in traction or ride quality.

Having said that, I've also been told that selecting a specific tire could add to the delivery time of your car based on the factory needing to utilize whatever tires they may happen to have available.

I did not specify a specific brand but will get Goodyears. It sounds like the tire technology has made great strides in confort and responsiveness.

Interesting post... does anybody run 'run-flats' on their normal cars? I am quite interested in getting them from Mrs. JRR now, after a fairly harrowing blow-out on I-95 just south of D.C. with Luca in the car.
