A couple photos from when the F50GT #001 broke in half at Laguna in 2004. I know this is old news but I ran into these shots today. The crash happened coming out of turn 11 (slowest turn on the track, 2nd gear, very tricky). Ripped the whole front of the car off.

It happened on an FCA track day during the annual meet which that year was held after the Historics. The car was finishing only its first lap if memory serves me. And it was the first of two track days! The poor bastard barely got to use a 1/2 gallon of gas (maybe Jon Shirley lent him a spare 375 for the day).

The story (which was probably relayed here in frightening detail two years ago) was that the car had just returned from Ferrari after being put back together due to a bad crash at Sears Point! The owner/driver took it all in stride and even told me when I was taking pictures to "take a shot of the serial number plate because that's the only way you'll get it!" (with the nose off!)

The autograph on the dash is from that German racer guy, kinda fast, gets moody during qualifying...
